How to Craft a Standout CV for Tutors: Tips from Fleet Education Services

At Fleet Education Services, we are proud to work with exceptional tutors who inspire and engage learners across the UK. The first step in joining our network of outstanding tutors is to make a great first impression through your CV. With the high volume of applications we receive daily, it’s crucial that your CV stands out to our recruitment team. If you’re looking to become the next impactful tutor in our program, here’s what we’re looking for in a professional tutor’s CV.

1. Tailor Your CV for the Education Sector

When crafting your CV, ensure that it is clearly laid out, concise, and relevant to education. Avoid lengthy paragraphs or blocks of text unrelated to teaching or tutoring. Instead, highlight your experience in the education sector with easily visible employment dates. A well-structured CV makes it easier for our Tuition Consultants to see your qualifications and expertise at a glance.

2. Include a Cover Letter or Follow Up with an Email

Taking the extra step to include a cover letter or following up with an email shows initiative and genuine interest in the role. This gesture demonstrates your engagement and enthusiasm to work with us, making your application more memorable and increasing your chances of being shortlisted.

3. Highlight Your Qualifications and Experience Clearly

To be considered for a role with Fleet Education Services, applicants must have Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), prior teaching experience, or a minimum of six months’ tutoring experience within the UK. If you do not hold QTS, you must have a bachelor’s degree alongside relevant experience. Make sure this information is clearly visible on your CV; without it, your application may not progress to the next stage.

4. Include Experience with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

While experience working with learners who have Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) is preferred, it is not mandatory. However, sharing any relevant experience can help us match you with suitable roles. The more information you provide about your experience with SEND, the better we can identify opportunities where your skills will be most impactful.

5. Display Your Availability

Indicating your availability to tutor directly on your CV or cover letter can significantly speed up the recruitment process. By providing this information upfront, our Tuition Consultants can start matching you with prospective learners even before the recruitment process is complete, allowing you to begin supporting learners sooner. Remember to also include your location as it helps recruiters identify local tutoring opportunities for you.

6. Emphasise Your Teaching Skills and Commitment

Showcase your talent for engaging and motivating learners, along with your strong organisational skills. We look for tutors who are consistent in their approach and committed to helping learners progress. Highlight any examples of how you have successfully inspired and supported learners in the past.

7. Clarify Your Eligibility to Work in the UK

Be sure to clearly state your eligibility to work and reside in the UK. This is a critical requirement for all applicants and including this information upfront helps streamline the process and ensures there are no delays in your application.

8. State Your DBS Status

To meet safer recruitment standards, all tutors are required to hold a full enhanced DBS certificate for working with children. If you do, and it is registered on the update service, make sure this is noted on your CV. If you do not currently have a DBS certificate, Fleet Education Services can assist you with the application process. Including this detail helps us expedite your registration and place you in a tutoring role faster.
