HOW TO DEAL WITH MULTIPLE SKILLS IN BRANDING
Multitalented people often jump between different creative projects feeling unsure of where to pitch their tent. While it's great to have multiple skills, it can also be challenging to figure out how to utilize them to build your brand.
In branding, you must understand that some skills are complementary. They are just there as an added advantage to strengthen your productivity and spice up your creative process.
For instance, as a personal branding strategist, I use various skills like writing, public speaking, content creation, podcasting, digital marketing and a few other relevant skills to spread my message. While I harness my skills and my talents to promote my brand, I still focus on my core strength.
When you're trying to build your brand with multiple skills, you need a combination of focus, organization, and flexibility. There are a few ways you can build a strong and unified brand even with your diverse skill set.
To do this, there are three things you need to consider when deciding which aspect of your skills/talents to build your brand on.
They are:
1. What are you passionate about?
Your passion can be a pointer to where you could excel as a brand. What is that thing that keeps you up at night? What gets you angry when you feel it isn't being done right? What do you enjoy doing even without being paid?
Answering these questions can help you decide which aspect to build on.
2. What have you built capacity and expertise in?

Knowledge, experience and expertise are three crucial elements of building a sustainable brand. While trying to consider the aspect of your skills to build on, you might want to take a close look at these factors.
Before you start building a brand around anything, you must have at least acquired experience and result in it to a certain degree. You cannot afford to build a brand in ignorance and end up guiding people in error. Yes! You might be passionate about it or even claim to know a thing or two here and there. But the question is, do you know enough to establish your brand as an authority in that field?
3. Can I make money from it?
Building a solid brand requires a couple of things; time, energy, information, patience, networking and of course, money. If what you love doing and want to build a brand around cannot bring in the money you need to cater for your basic needs, while simultaneously financing your brand's growth, it would be best if you keep that passion aside for a while.
This part is a bit tricky because some people feel guilty about sacrificing their passion for profit. But in reality, you don't have to abandon your passion completely. You can take up a 9-5 job or learn a high-income skill so the money can keep rolling in, while you build the brand of your dreams on the sideline.
The beauty of branding is that your brand doesn't have to be static, you can always expand. As you grow in your personal development journey, you might discover other aspects you want to try. So you're free to start with one thing today and diversify tomorrow depending on your current skill set.
Furthermore, you shouldn't let the confusion of being multi talented keep you from building your brand. No rule says you must figure out everything before you start. Just take off from somewhere and keep adjusting until it fits.
Be bold and experiment with new ideas so you can create a brand that reflects your unique talents and in the long run, becomes as multi-dimensional as you are.
