How did I Learn the Basics of Figma?

I recently joined a course, 'Explain Ideas Visually' by Janis Ozolins. This course introduced me to a powerful design tool Figma. It's a free web-based design tool that allows you to design visuals, logos, presentations, wireframes, to complex prototypes. It's also known for its collaborative features that I am yet to explore. Figma desktop application is also available for both Windows and Mac. I am currently using the desktop application.

I thought of sharing the two free videos that helped me learn Figma. It is the shortest learning curve for any design tool I have learned until now :)

Figma Tutorial By Envato Tuts

With this tutorial, you will learn the basics of Figma, working with project files, using the Figma UI, creating vectors using Pen Tool, designing a prototype, and sharing your work to get feedback. This video is all you need to know to start working with Figma.

Figma Pen Tool Tutorial

If you wish to design complex shapes or trace your graphics then master the Pen tool. Figma is known for its vector networks made using the Pen tool. I use this tool to trace any graphics in a hand-drawn style. I learn this concept of tracing while going through Janis's course.

You can also use these detailed tutorials offered by Figma to learn the nitty-gritty of the tool. However, at this stage, I just wanted to learn the basics, and the above two videos were enough to let me kickstart my journey to upskill my visual designing skills.

I am currently reading 'Atomic Habits' by James Clear. James shared an interesting finding. By getting 1% better each day or one year, one can get thirty-seven times better by the end of the year. Here is how I used Figma & learnings from Janis's course to convey this finding visually.

Hi Rachna Ghiya (she/her) just loved the minimalistic explanation. And this would be a great start for me to explore the tool 🙂
