ERP Selection Should Start with These 3 Categories

Functionality

All ERPs help you handle core financials, but some are better than others at managing multi-site and multi-entity companies. If you’re looking to grow and expand, choosing a cloud ERP that’s designed to scale with you is important.

Other areas of functionality include integration with customer and supplier portals, CRM capability, product configuration (CPQ), BOM, and production scheduling.

Finally, is the ERP designed for YOUR specific type of manufacturing? The needs of a machine shop will be very different from those of a pharmaceutical plant. The more closely aligned the ERP is with your business type, the less customization will be required.

Technology

  • In addition to being cloud based, does the ERP support mobile access to enable users throughout the organization?
  • Does it support low-code/no-code integration so you can add more capabilities over time without excessive costs?
  • What about IIoT integrations? Machine monitoring is becoming increasingly popular for maximizing utilization.
  • What are the analytics capabilities? Dashboards and easily configurable reporting help you get at your data to make better decisions faster.

Finally, none of the bells and whistles matter unless the technology is EASY to use and adopt.

Support

This final category is linked to both the quality of the ERP itself and the implementation partner you choose.

You’ll want a solid understanding of:

  • The success rate for implementing your selected cloud ERP
  • The likelihood and cost of change orders
  • The level of support available from the software company AND your consulting partner

Since the majority of ERP projects take longer and cost more than expected, having help with selection and implementation makes a big difference. We’re here to help.
