How do you find your significance?

How do you find your significance?

What are you known for?

As a leader, you must be very conscious of your brand.  A leadership brand is how you make the people you work with feel.  Are you someone who makes people feel great?  Do they feel intimidated?  How are you influencing those around you?  In the #CJJblog this week, I take a look at a fantastic book I recently read, Finding Significance by: Marty Osborn.  I ask you some questions related to significance and get into the five keys to help you become the leader people are happy to see.  Enjoy.

  • Questions

  • Have you ever worked for a total jerk?
  • What were three things this person did wrong?
  • Do you think this person could ever change?
  • Have you ever worked for a great leader?
  • What characteristics made them great?
  • What are your leadership characteristics?
  • What is one thing you should do more of as a leader?
  • What is one thing you should do less of as a leader?

  • Five keys to becoming the leader everyone wants to see

  1. Stop trying to be a hero.  Guide your team.
  2. It’s your team.  Don’t leave things to chance.  Find the right people for your squad.  Know what you are looking for, know yourself, and take the time to do it right.
  3. Understand the power of moments and create magical ones for your team.  A great way to do this is by going over the top with appreciation (take out to lunch, take pictures, etc.) on an employee’s first day.  Celebrate them every chance you get.
  4. Become a learner.  Not all readers are leaders, but all leaders are readers.  Be curious and grow your mind.
  5. Get better consistently.  Your customers will demand that you deliver.  Battle to improve, not with your competitors.

Did You Know?  The Limitless Leadership Lounge podcast is very excited to have the author, Marty Osborn on an episode very soon to discuss leadership.
