How a Dye & Durham employee ensured acquired laptops went to people in need
Following our acquisition of a software company, Dye & Durham ended up with a surplus of laptops after providing employees with new company machines. Many of them were only gently used and in excellent condition.
Dogan Akbulut 🤝 , an IT support analyst based in our Toronto office, didn’t want to condemn these 40 computers to a landfill site, thereby contributing to the city’s already considerable amount of electronic waste. With innovation and altruism in mind, he approached his managers with the idea of donating the laptops to charitable organizations that could benefit from slightly used but still top-of-the-line tech.
On his own time, Doğan wiped the data on each laptop, removed any viruses and malware, and then identified several organizations in need.
Thanks to his initiative, Elora House, an organization that helps women who have been victims of sexual exploitation or human trafficking; UforChange, an organization that teaches young people in creative arts about web development; and ACT, a group that helps those affected by AIDs and HIV in Toronto, were the grateful recipients of Dye & Durham’s surplus laptops.
Doğan’s determination to do good — for both people in need and the environment — is exactly the kind of integrity we’re striving to deliver at Dye & Durham. Congratulations to Doğan for his focus on the greater good!
