How Emotional Intelligence Can Improve The Future of Work: Self-Innovation

In my quest to understand more about innovation - I reached into the deep realms of finding out what innovation is - and it's not certainly all technology-based.

I investigated emotional intelligence and gathered my thoughts to prepare for battle to understand how emotional intelligence can indeed improve the future of work.

What is real innovation?

Despite what many people believe, creativity is not the direct cause of innovation. It is partly true for those who believe they can access that side of the brain - "According to a popular view, creativity is a product of the brain's right hemisphere -- innovative people are considered "right-brain thinkers" while "left-brain thinkers" are thought to be analytical and logical." More interesting is the approach humans attempt at work to increase the innovation drive.

How Is Innovation understood at Work Today Post "The Great Resignation"

I have found from my analysis and soft study that due to the exploding nature of toxic leadership behaviours in the global office, innovation from man to man and from lady to lady is poorly understood. If more leaders exercised deeper emotional intelligence skills during their tenure, they may achieve higher levels of performance.

Ultimate performance is about developing both a growth mindset and encouraging high performance coaching practices. HPCP is improving in the Learning and Development function, but it is by no means the final step in creating a humanistic innovation approach.

What is a Humanistic Innovation Approach

To date, my analysis indicates how humans access and utilize their ability to increase their EQ. Despite the fact that not all subscribe to the growth mindset as described by Dr. Carol S. Dweck, one can increase EQ and be more self-aware around multiple angles of self-innovation.

What is Self Innovation and how does it improve the Future of Work

I define self innovation as the following:

How humans access and manage their EQ for skills assessment and emotional skills for advances in accessing more creative power for personal and business solutions.

Nevertheless, as my research continues, it appears that the creative power has the power to overcome several mental health conditions including epilepsy, depression, suicide prevention, and general anxiety disorder.

Based on the early results of my soft study, self innovation can lead to several benefits:

  1. Improved EQ culture of learning in organisational culture and structure. ✅
  2. Improved ability for employees to be self-efficient at managing stress through their entire cycle of employment. ✅
  3. Higher advantage gains for skills assessment further develop into higher happiness levels in life. ✅
  4. Profound and advanced self-awareness capabilities in daily life actions. ✅
  5. Decreased chances of entering depression levels even with traumatic events arising in the human lifecycle. ✅
  6. General improvements in energy levels and healthy lifestyles. (a by-product of higher self-awareness)
  7. Higher gains in solving business solutions in multiple areas, including technical innovation and general leadership practice. ✅

Summary of Self-Innovation research to date

Whilst the results above are strong indications point toward all humans having the ability to access self-innovation or at least the practice of it - the format of how and how often the training is injected into humans is another complex area. Due to the great resignation, the current war in Ukraine, and other media distractions - one could argue that this has always been the case.

However, the one element that should be paid close attention to is the results of a change in the labour market due to the great resignation. Further, toxic leadership is one of the root causes of many people quitting their jobs in America. Many folks chose to quit due to caring for their parents through covid, and sadly, families felt the need to leave their job after losing a loved one again through covid.

The Complexities of the Great Resignation

The main reasons for the great resignation are yet to be revealed by a comprehensive academic study. However, in my research path, I found three contributing factors:

1) Mental Health During and after the Pandemic.

2) Prior education.

3) Breakdowns in labour market behaviours and business practice.

No such one is more accountable than the other in the variables above - however, based upon my supply chain of learning theory, I believe that points 2 and 3 had more impact - where the human mind was not simply ready for lockdown and other associations occurring through covid-19.

Final Analysis To Date

There is no magic pill, even with my latest findings of self-innovation in terms of all humans being champions at their desks of work and enjoying life. However, strong self-awareness, paying attention to moods, and making connections to activities that increase happiness - even in stressful times- paints a better and brighter future for work.

The simple answer is the following:

" Spend more time getting to know and appreciate you and focusing on being happy - using your EQ to leverage stress and anxiety and find a company culture that welcomes your presence."

Note: If you want to attend my next event for my talk on the framework I have on the above findings - head over to my profile, and have look at event - coming on LinkedIn Live on 25 April.
