How to find your higher purpose

How to find your higher purpose

During most of my twenties, I was in massive search mode. I was in the wrong job. I was dating the wrong guys. I was even in the wrong state! I kept asking myself... "what's my purpose?"

But what is a "purpose?" And how do you find it? I think it lives at the intersections of 3 questions:

  1. What brings you joy?
  2. What are you good at?
  3. How do you want to serve the world?

For me, #1 and #2 were easy. I loved making people feel good and I was good at sales. #3 is a little trickier -- but a tip I learned along the way was to simply think about: What makes you cry?

Seeing women held back from their potential has always made me cry. And I knew from a young age that I wanted to elevate women... I just didn't know it would start with their butts. ;)

On this International Women's Day, I think about the importance of the feminine on the planet. And how much better off we will all be when we encourage and empower half the human race to prosper, invent, be educated, start their own businesses, run for office -- essentially be given the chance to soar!

My grandma recently passed away at the age of 97. And I have to wonder... what if she had been given the same opportunities as me? Would she have started a business or invented something? I think "yes," and it would have been off the charts.

Having purpose gives you courage. When I think about my purpose, I think about my grandma and my mom, and all the other women who came before me, and all the women who will come after. It gives me the courage to make the call, walk through the door, get up on the stage and ultimately put my savings on the line for the chance to believe in myself, a chance so many women still don't get simply because they are a woman.

So if you're struggling with the elephant in the room -- "what's my purpose?" Ask yourself those 3 questions. Write down your answers, take them seriously, and be open to a million possibilities.
