How To Follow Up Without Being Annoying

How To Follow Up Without Being Annoying

#frankadvice for fab follow-up. This advice applies to any of those encounters where you are forced to wait and be either accepted or rejected. Situations like a job interview or sales pitch. Waiting is so.much.fun...

Try these three simple tactics to manage follow-up like a pro:

1] End Your Meeting With Clarity On Next Steps

At the end of your meeting or interview, ask ‘What are the next steps in your process?’ If you don't get an answer on the decision timeline, ask a follow up question. Try something like this, ‘When can I expect to hear back?’

2] Send A Thank You Note

Most people skip this step. By sending a thank you note, you’re positioning yourself to stand out from the competition. For example, in a job interview process 95% of candidates skip this step. Yet, hiring managers expect a thank you. Don't overthink this one. A simple 'It was a nice to meet you today and thanks for your time' can go a long way. Send your thank you note within eight hours of the interview or meeting.

3] Respect The Timeline

If a timeline is given, be sure to respect that before following up. Otherwise, you’re being annoying. If no timeline is given, follow up five business days after your initial interview or meeting.

Be the 5% that follows up and you’ll be sure to stand out!
