How To: Generative Design with Revit

Generative designs have been used in Revit software. This helps to generate design alternatives based on the constraints, goals, and inputs of the users. These generative designs can be explored, optimized and also useful for making informed decisions to address the problems related to the designs.

This is the design exploration process in which users are able to input the design goals into the Revit software along with several design parameters. These design parameters include performance requirements, spatial requirements, cost constraints, manufacturing methods and others. Rules have been used by the generative designs which help to provide a range of design possibilities. The users are able to develop and analyze the design alternatives with the help of generative designs in the Revit software.

The reason behind using Generative Designs

The generative designs help to provide views of all the possible designs in the Revit software at once. As a result, users can select the design solutions on the basis of their preferences which helps to satisfy the design parameters of the designers. In this case, the range of design problems is limited.

➢ Users can use generative designs to come up with seating solutions which helps to optimize the number of seals and can compare this with the ideal sight lines. ➢ The generative designs in Revit can also be used by the users for developing a parking plan. This helps to maximize the number of cars in the parking lot in the meantime of maintaining the desired circulation as well as maintaining walking distance to the entrance of the buildings. ➢ In the case of designing an apartment building, or if the users want to get an arrangement of 1-, 2-, and 3-bedroom units, the generative designs in the Revit software can be used. ➢ Users can use generative designs in case they want to manufacture a part which helps to meet certain requirements and minimises the amount of design materials.

The process of getting access to Generative Designs in Revit

The generative design tools have been located in the Manage tab in the Revit software. Users have to go to the Manage tab and go to the Generative Design panel to access the generative designs in the Revit software.

Direct access to the generative designs in the Revit software can be done if the users have subscriptions to the Autodesk Architecture, Engineering & Construction Collection. In the case of using Revit LT by the users, users can not access the generative designs as it does not have the capability of generative designs.
