How to Integrate Purpose into your Company Ethos

How to Integrate Purpose into your Company Ethos

Your company’s ethos should drive every business decision you make; it encompasses all your values, and should act as the foundation of your business and brand. However, it is important to consider what your company ethos is, and how, exactly, you will put this into action. Today, we are going to be looking at how to inject purpose into your company ethos, and why this will be beneficial to your business.

Why Your Company Ethos is Important

But firstly, let’s look into why your business’s ethos is so important. Having core principles is a key way to voice what your company is all about, sharing your brand identity with potential customers. In this day and age, perception is everything: if your values do not align with your target audience, then they are far less likely to invest their time or money into you and your business.

What’s more, having a clearly communicated company ethos will unite your employees through these aligned values, resulting in a healthier, happier workplace.

What is Your Business’s Purpose?

Next up, it’s time to put your business under the microscope. When asked, most would claim that the main purpose of their business is turning over profit. Making money is the core goal of any business – naturally! – however, it is important that you are not blindsided by this. Think about what your business’s true purpose is, beyond profit – your ‘higher purpose’, if you like. Why did you set this company up in the first place? And how is this purpose the driving force behind all that you do?

Try to hone in on a purpose which inspires you and your team to work harder, stand taller and be proud of the community you’ve built. At BKT, our slogan “Growing Together” stems from our ‘glocal’ approach: we are passionate about championing local communities, from our international charity work to the job satisfaction of our own employees. This community-driven purpose is the foundation of all that we do, paving the path for positive change – and inspiring other businesses to do the same.

How to Drive Positive Change

It is important to always put your money where your mouth is, and put your purpose into practice. For example, BKT’s advocacy for ‘going green’ is directly mirrored by our innovation; we are continuously searching for new sustainable practices which we can implement into our day-to-day practices.

So, whatever your “higher purpose” may be, you must ensure that this influences your actions as a business – whether this is through your product range, your social media campaigns, or your daily processes in the workplace.

Implementing purpose into your company ethos can provide a whole host of benefits: it can increase productivity, inspire camaraderie within your team, and even increase job retention. People want to work for a company that aligns with their own values, and what’s more, they want to feel motivated to come into work every day. So much of our lives are spent working, therefore it is crucial that such a significant period of time is fueled by ambition, a love for what we do and – ultimately – purpose.
