4moHere's something that also needs to be considered: A start-up needs someone who can wear many hats...not just CFO, but perhaps CFO/COO or CIO/COO. The greater the level of flexibility someone can show, the greater their chances of being considered. Many start-ups founders become founders not just because they have a great idea or a burning passion, but because they see the siloed nature of C-Suites as ridiculous/counterproductive/and a drag on innovation.
