How many of you are watching Love Death + Robots?

LDR Season 3 was just released today and I want to share an interesting Netflix user experience I had this morning.

I was super stoked to find out that during an episode, there’s a QR code that lets you mint a free NFT!

Here is how it went:

  1. Opened Netflix app on my phone
  2. Click and watch (It was recommended to me without having to search for)
  3. Watch till the end and scan QR code
  4. Surprise! Land on their NFT mint page
  5. Go to Metamask wallet and connect to the site
  6. Mint one out of the total nine NFTs
  7. Now I’m so excited and it showed a pre-filled Twitter message to encourage me to share with others. Why not! I tweeted! Yay extra brand exposure!

Voila! Total experience took less than 15 minutes (including watching the show) to acquire a new customer and also help spread the word about the show! Well done! Now I became a new fan!

So what do we learn from this experience from a branding/marketing perspective?

  1. This experience unlocked a new engagement utility: Watch to earn. However on the show’s website it did say neither Netflix and/or the creator of the show are making any money from this. “This is all about the art, and you the fans!” Thanks for giving back to the community. I can only see more and more shows adopting the same experience for brand awareness.
  2. Spend some time to rethink marketing when trying to acquire new customers. I’m not on FB/Instagram anymore. Showing an ad in my face to ask me to watch a show does not help. But having me engage with the brand through an NFT incentive gets me to watch so I can collect the NFT. Yes, this is gamification 101. I love how they also planned this out in IRL: according to Harshith.eth (the Mod AKA moderator) in the Discord, “all the tokens are out there, and the 9 QR Codes are scattered throughout the digital and physical world. Collecting them all will take a keen eye. Access to the QR Code will allow you to mint the NFT or save it as a photo!” Combining digital and physical experience into one to allow enthusiasts/loyalists to continuously grow with the community is awesome!
  3. Maybe this is perfect timing for testing: As we are in the bear market of NFTs, it may be a good thing for brands to test out new user engagement experiences like this to identify new sets of customers. Why? Gas fee is low, barrier to entry is low, mass adoption goes up.

As of 5/20/2022 6AM PST, below are some of the metrics worth watching over time:

  • Discord: 1.54K Members
  • Open Sea: 14.1K Owners, Floor Price: 0.003ETH (it was 13.2K on my first draft of this, but it is going up by the hour)
  • LDR Twitter: 19.9K Followers (it was 19.7K on my first draft of this, but it is going up by the hour)

If you are interested in minting, go watch the show on Netflix or DM me for a shortcut :)

Minting Info:

  • There are total nine different NFT artworks
  • There is no set maximum supply for this collection. Yes, unlimited supply.
  • There is a time window to mint which will be announced soon.
  • It’s only on the Ethereum block chain.
  • Only able to mint on Mobile! No desktop.
  • How much does it cost to mint? The mint is free. All you need to pay is the gas fee. I’ve minted three and the average gas fee is around $7-$10 this morning.
  • For the physical world (hint): They can’t provide us a map, however, you can look out for billboards, videos, and even within Season 3 of LDR.

You can learn more about the minting here as well.
