How Money, Numbers, and Intuition Drive Success

How Money, Numbers, and Intuition Drive Success

Hey, Hunter!

What makes entrepreneurship different from your 9-to-5 job?

Entrepreneurship isn’t just about money; it’s about striving for long-term freedom. True freedom means control over your time, your resources, and your decisions. It’s about breaking out of traditional limits and creating something bigger than yourself.  While entrepreneurship begins with intuition, it also comes with more risks, challenges, and uncertainty—but the payoff is immense compared to a day job.

What Makes Entrepreneurship Unique?

In a regular job, there’s always someone above you. Your responsibilities are limited, no matter how hard you work. But as an entrepreneur, you take on ultimate responsibility for success or failure. This responsibility pushes you to grow faster—in knowledge, confidence, and skills. Entrepreneurship forces you to see time differently. Each decision contributes to long-term growth, and success comes from understanding how things develop over time. Doctors and others who serve society take incredible responsibility in their fields, but entrepreneurship adds something unique: the ability to scale your impact endlessly.

The Danger of Doing It Alone

Freelancing is a great starting point, but true entrepreneurship demands collaboration. To scale, you need a team you can trust—people you can pay and rely on. Breaking the barrier of working solo is hard, but it’s the only way to grow. Once you build a team, there’s no limit to what you can achieve: scaling your business is the path to freedom, developing your intuition, and mastering the game of responsibility.

The Trap of Words

Let’s talk about trap words. Words like work, money, and business are so overloaded with meaning that they can trick your brain into shutting down. Take work, for example. It could mean tasks, colleagues, creativity, finances—there’s so much packed into one word that your brain just blocks it. That’s why, when someone asks, “How’s work?” you instinctively reply, “Fine.” It’s not that you don’t have thoughts; it’s that your brain avoids the complexity.

Money as Numbers: Reality Check

Money is one of the biggest trap words out there. Most people think of it as something vague—like “cheap” or “expensive”—without really understanding what it means. But successful entrepreneurs don’t see money as some abstract concept; they see it as numbers.

When I look at money, I think in terms of $10,000, $1 million, or $5 million. Numbers are clear, actionable, and specific. They tell you exactly what’s happening in your business. Saying something is “expensive” or “cheap” doesn’t help—it’s just an opinion. Numbers let you assess the real value of something.

If you want to scale and grow, you have to start seeing money for what it really is. Stop generalizing and start calculating. Numbers give you clarity and the confidence to make better decisions. That’s how entrepreneurs thrive.

The Ferrari Story

This reminds me of a scene from the latest Ferrari movie. Enzo Ferrari, the legendary carmaker, was visited by his accountants, who told him his company was collapsing. When asked how many cars he made that year, Enzo confidently replied, “150 or 160.” The accountants looked at him and said, “No, it’s 98.” Enzo, stunned, repeated, “198, right?” But the accountants confirmed: “No, 98.” Enzo Ferrari was the God of cars, but his failure to understand the numbers nearly cost him his company. This is a lesson for every entrepreneur: passion and skill aren’t enough. You must develop an intuitive understanding of your numbers.

Lessons for Entrepreneurs:

Feel the Numbers Behind the Money Don’t rely on spreadsheets alone. Calculate numbers yourself to build an intuitive grasp of your finances. One startup I knew collapsed because of a single Excel error—the owner thought he was making a profit when he was actually losing money.

Develop Intuition for Your Finances Numbers aren’t just about money; they’re about everything—employees, clients, revenue, and growth. Learn to recognize patterns and spot problems before they escalate.
