We all live in a world where complexity is something that we always try to avoid too much or try to embrace too much.
Sometimes I find product managers rejecting too many meetings and calls in the name of keeping things simple.
On the other hand, I find too many products manager accepting way too many meetings, discussion calls and customers meeting in the name of embracing complexity.
So which is the right approach?!
Is it avoiding complexity all together or embracing it?!
When I first started working in research and development over a decade ago, I heard a very strange yet impactful quote “It is all about the right priorities and not just any priorities.”
I thought about it for some time when I was handling too much that I can actually handle between operational work, strategy, taking stuff off my manager’s plate. Things are usually chaotic at work, but it is just about setting the right priorities.
We will always have complexities, and we always have the choice to run from them or embrace them, yet neither of these approaches is optimum, WE SHOULD NAVIGATE THEM!
When you are trying to navigate complexity, you realize that in the true sense, black and white no longer exist, it is all grey with different levels and depending on your direction (Which usually would come from business direction or in some cases for some people, their political agenda), you should choose which levels of grey has to be neglected and which has to be focused and dealt with right away. Hence your Right Priorities.

In fact, the ability to discern which grey areas need attention and which can be set aside is a core skill for successful product managers. It’s all about prioritization, as you rightly said—balancing the operational with the strategic while keeping the business direction clear. Yes, it’s all about setting priorities. And eventually, you will see that you are actually thinking and acting on the right one!
