How Zeti is reimagining EV financing for fleets

We could reduce transportation emissions in our cities by up to 70% if all urban fleets switched to clean vehicles.

But as of 2021, only 1% of global fleets were electrified. That’s only about 12 million vehicles.

To increase this number, Zeti wants to make fleet electrification more accessible for operators of all sizes.

How is Zeti solving the problem?

Zeti helps fleet operators optimize cash flow through pay-as-you-drive financing for EVs instead of traditional leasing models.

Why are they using Smartcar’s API?

Zeti needed a software-only telematics solution that they could administer to clients without travel. They also wanted a powerful developer experience to create a serverless application on Microsoft Azure for customers to onboard their vehicles.

Chelsea Dowling , Head of Operations at Zeti, says:

Our usual language isn't Node, but because of our serverless architecture and the excellent Smartcar SDK available, we decided to create a standalone Node.js application which then integrates with the rest of our platform over API.

What results have they seen?

💻 An API infrastructure that scales easily with their serverless architecture

📈 Increased customer satisfaction (CSAT) scores

💰 Higher billing accuracy

New brand compatibility: Rivian and Citroën

Rivian in the US

What do the three best-selling cars in the US have in common?

Yup, you guessed it. They’re all pickup trucks.

And speaking of trucks, we’re excited to announce that Smartcar is now compatible with Rivian in the US! Developers can use Smartcar to retrieve location, mileage, battery data, and more from these popular all-electric pickups.

Here’s an example of how customers are using the integration today:

Rolling Energy Resources (RER) connects to electric vehicles to help utilities run demand response programs. With the addition of Rivian, RER can now help utilities communicate with 95% of EVs on the road across 16 states in the US!

Citroën in Europe

Our list of compatible brands in Europe just keeps on growing! 📈

Citroën is one of the many automakers set to go completely electric in 2030.

With a new affordable EV SUV unveiled just last month (some articles call it a ‘quirky’ one 🤯), and a new logo in store next year, it’ll be an exciting decade ahead for the French brand.

Today, apps can use Smartcar to integrate with Citroen’s most popular models, like the C4 hatchback, and the brand’s existing electric line-up!

Later this week: Understanding the build vs buy debate

Date: Thursday, October 27th 2022

Time: 11 AM PST / 2 PM EST

Join Smartcar’s Customer Success team and our customers, Recurrent and DIMO , as they break down what really happens when teams build vehicle integrations from scratch.

Here’s a sneak peek from Scott Case , CEO at Recurrent:

It’s an ongoing build vs buy decision, not just a one time thing. The initial build might be a reasonable amount of effort to justify building an integration with the OEMs that make the most EVs, but that quickly changes once you think about the ongoing maintenance cost of doing that.

Join us and get your questions ready as we dive into:

  • What goes into a reliable and secure vehicle integration
  • Factors that influence a build vs buy decision
  • Real-life examples from customers who have successfully scaled

What we discussed at the 2022 Mileage-Based User Fee Alliance (MBUFA) Conference 🛣

Smartcar’s CEO, Sahas Katta , participated in the MBUFA conference in Washington D.C. last month. It was one of our first in-person conference trips since 2019, and it was exciting to see our customers Emovis and Azuga, Inc. taking part as well!

Sahas joined the Toyota Mobility Foundation and Azuga on a panel discussing the role of automakers in mileage-based user fees (MBUF).

At this event, we wanted to clear up two common misconceptions:

❌ Road usage charge technology isn’t ready yet

❌ There aren’t enough cars on the road with embedded telematics

The reality is that these are no longer roadblocks for MBUF programs today.

Look no further than how Emovis uses Smartcar’s API to power its partnerships with Virginia, Utah, and Oregon. In fact, The Washington Post reports that Virginia is now the largest technology-based program for mileage-based user fees as of this month.
