How one email led to a 100k engagement

How one email led to a 100k engagement

Hi! You’re here because you’re a woman who runs a consulting business, and you want to learn how to make it more profitable, more stable, and more fulfilling. In our world, that means being able to get more of the right kind of clients into your business and get paid on your value, not your time, so you can build a business that supports your life, not the other way around.

If you’re like a lot of women consultants, you’re so good at the work you do, but the process of getting new clients feels a bit like unfamiliar territory. You’ve gotten this far with referrals or word of mouth, but you know you should be doing something more proactive (but you don’t want to be salesy). You also know that what got you here won’t get you to the next level in your business.

If that’s you, you’re in the right place.

Here you’ll learn strategies you can use to attract more of the right kinds of consulting clients and get paid more for your consulting contracts, in a way that doesn’t even feel like selling.

Along the way, you’ll discover that you aren’t “bad at sales.” (I promise.) You simply haven’t learned yet. But you can learn how, feel comfortable, and actually be good at it.

We’ll cover the three critical areas to master in order to get higher-paying consulting clients:

Attract (attracting more of the right clients and filling your client pipeline)

Guide (leading a sales process and keeping clients engaged)

Close (helping clients say yes and getting paid more than you ever thought you could).

I'm glad you're here! Let's dive in.

---

Consultants often say to me: “I see people in my LinkedIn feed all the time who I know should totally work with me. But I don’t know how to make it happen.”

And then their gremlins start talking:

“If they needed my service, they’d reach out.”

“If I reach out, it’ll come across as salesy.”

“They know how to find me.”

And even: “They’ve probably forgotten me.”

But the reality is, our clients are crazy busy.

They’re juggling multiple priorities – competing initiatives, their boss, their boss’s boss, their kids, ALL the fire drills.

Our clients will suffer quite a lot before taking action. Because doing something to relieve their suffering? That alone feels like work.

So, if they’re sitting in their office, needing what you offer, too busy to reach out – while you’re sitting in your office thinking, “I’M RIGHT HERE!” – you need a way to bridge that gap.

Because the best way to fill your pipeline isn’t always to find new people. It’s sometimes far more effective to surface opportunities you might already have within your world.

If you can’t unearth these opportunities you’re missing out on the low-hanging fruit.

In our world, that’s called The Shoulder Tap Formula.

And here’s the secret: You won’t come across as salesy because you don’t need to sell anything AT ALL. You don’t even have to offer anything. It all starts with a genuine conversation.

That’s my client, T, found too. She has 20+ years of experience in HR. She knows a lot of people. She was sitting on a gold mine of contacts.

But she felt weird about reaching out to them because she hated the idea of becoming THAT person – the one who reaches out to ex-colleagues and friends and SELLS at them.

We’ve all been on the receiving end of those conversations, right? We definitely don’t want to go down that road.

That’s why the whole point of the Shoulder Tap is to give you a way to reach out to people you know with a super-inviting email that doesn’t sell anything. It simply invites them into a conversation.

So that’s exactly what T did. It resulted in a lovely conversation. The client immediately saw how T could help her.

That one email turned into a $100k engagement.

Listen, I speak to a lot of women who’d rather do anything than reach out – especially to someone they know already.

I get it. In fact, I got into this whole world of sales coaching in the first place because I hated the standard advice about how to “get” clients.

I needed to find a way of talking to people that felt good to me, and didn’t feel like selling. That’s why the Shoulder Tap strategy works for me, and why it works for my clients.

It’s why I’m offering it to you, too.

If you’d like a copy of the Shoulder Tap Formula, just reply to this email with “SHOULDER TAP” in the subject line and I’ll send you the download link.

In the meantime, can you think of one person you could Shoulder Tap today?

To your success,

Leah

Hi! I'm Leah Neaderthal. I'm a sales coach for women consultants and the founder of Smart Gets Paid.

When I left my corporate career and started my first consulting business, I learned three things very quickly:

1- It’s 1000x harder to sell your own stuff than to sell someone else’s.

2- Marketing is not selling.

3- I had no idea how to sell.

I needed clients, but I didn’t know how to actually get them, and I was terrified of coming off like a used car salesman. It made me doubt whether I was even cut out to run a business.

So I taught myself how to get new clients in a way that feels authentic, allows me to be myself, and that works, consistently. I now teach these techniques to others. Because I know it’s possible to learn how to land clients, and actually feel comfortable doing it, once you know how.

Whenever you’re ready to start landing higher-paying clients, here are three ways I can help you.

I love the focus on building and nurturing relationships vs. what is thought of as traditional sales.
