How Romance Can Help Boost Boost Sales and Increase Customer Loyalty?

What does it mean to be a successful entrepreneur in 2020? Do you measure your success through customer acquisition, retention, or relationships?

In a world where everyone is competing for attention and sales, being a business owner or the leader of your organization means learning to find ways to reach your target market and acquire customers. True leaders, however, know that it doesn’t end there.

Successful entrepreneurs and leaders understand that merely focusing on customer acquisition isn't truly sustainable. It's expensive, and it consumes a lot of your resources. Not to mention, you’re losing many opportunities by simply focusing on getting new customers. You’re not making the most of your existing clientele.

So, how do you boost sales and at the same time, increase customer loyalty without spending a fortune? Romance.

Romance isn’t just for developing and nurturing personal relationships. You could use it to acquire and retain customers, too. Furthermore, you could apply romance in your business operations to keep morale in your business high.

When done right, romance could help you improve your customer service, which helps increase customer loyalty and referrals?

“How exactly do I romance my customers, Don?” Here are some tips to get you started.

Understanding Romance

First, you have to understand what romancing your customers is all about.

Romancing your customer focuses on providing an exceptional experience for your customer. It's about creating a "WOW" factor, so they always remember you and would always want to work with you. When you romance your customers, you’re creating an extraordinary connection or emotional bond with them.

By romancing your customers, they will always think about your brand with love, fondness, and affection.

It sounds easy, right? While it may seem simple, the truth is, romancing your customer may not come naturally for some. You’ll need to learn, practice, and improve your skills daily.

Why? Because romance is an action (not just a feeling). And for you to be good at it, you need to be passionate enough to do it every day — with every customer that you interact with. It requires consistency. Otherwise, it wouldn’t work.

“Don, how do I start romancing my customers? How do I know what to do?”

Similar to how you develop personal relationships, you need to know their likes and interests. The best way to do that is to ask them. By starting conversations that focus on them — and not just the business that they do with you — you are showing them that they are more than just customers to you. They are friends, too.

If you have their contact details, you can call them, inquire about the customer service they received from your business and ask them if they have suggestions. If a call isn't possible, surveys and emails will do too.

The key is to reach out to them, ask how your service to them went, and what you could do to serve them better the next time they do business with you.

Importance of Romance in Customer Acquisition and Retention

Customers want to feel they are important to you. They want to know you respect and care for them. When a customer feels valued, they will do business with you again. When that happens, you know for sure that you’ve gained a loyal customer.

Through romance, you could show your customers that you respect, value, and care for them. When you do it consistently, you could even increase your sales exponentially. That’s what I mean about making the most of your existing clientele.

Give more thoughts to your actions, and soon, you will notice changes that bring extraordinary results. For instance, by being consistent with your “romantic” actions and thoughtfulness, you’re creating a positive connection with your customers, which will make them like you more. And because you’re treating them great, they feel better engaging with you. This could lead to more sales. As the cycle repeats, your customers will stay longer with you.

Does it make sense?

In your current customer service process, what service do you think you could improve on so you could provide that “WOW!” factor? You could start from there and then eventually, improve on all aspects of your business operations.

Ways to Romance Your Customers

Now that you understand how romance could help, it’s time to find ways to actually romance your customers.

I’ve mentioned earlier about asking your customers what they want. Once you have enough information, you could start personalizing experiences for them.

Here’s an example. A car rental company once took notice of the little details that their regular customers do when they rent a car. With one customer, they noticed that in the morning, they always drive through a coffee shop to buy the same type of coffee. So, the next time that customer rented a car, the driver had their favorite coffee from the same coffee shop ready. This did not only save the customer a trip to the coffee shop. It also saved them time. This went on a few more times until one day, the company received a referral from that customer with feedback that says they’re the best in the city.

How would you feel if you’re the head of that car rental company?

When it comes to romancing your customers, you don’t need to provide big gestures of appreciation for them to take notice of the extraordinary experience they’re getting from you. Just a little thoughtfulness would go along way.

Here are some things you could try in your office today:

1.      Always be respectful and mind your manners. Etiquette is essential for face-to-face interaction.

2.      Always say “thank you” — even for the little things. Gratitude goes a long way.

3.      Always ask for feedback. A simple “how did we do to help you today?” shows you care about their feelings and opinions.

When and Where to Romance Your Customers

With today's technology, romancing your customers could be done on different platforms, settings, and situations.

Of course, the best way to show romance is still during face-to-face interaction. But since you'd want to be consistent with it, you could romance your customers through email, text, messaging apps, and even in social media.

Romancing your customers is truly a game-changer. If you haven't tried it yet, it's time to give it a chance to work for your business.
