How is it that Small Actions can Create HUGE Change?
When you look at the difference between success and failure you will realize that it is often marginal. It’s the small things that were repeatedly on a daily basis that make all the difference.
Jim Rohn curated two beautiful and practical definitions for success and failure that I live by: “Success is nothing more than a few simple disciplines practiced every day. Failure is a few errors in judgment repeated every day.”
But, small actions alone don’t lead to success. The one missing factor that must be included in this equation is time.
SMALL CONSISTENT ACTIONS + TIME = MASSIVE CHANGE
Small actions executed once, twice or ten times don’t have a significant impact. But compounded over time those same small actions make a massive difference. Therefore the key to success, impact or change is small actions and patience.
THE GRAND CANYON
If you were to look at a river in the attempt to observe the effect that water has on eroding rock, you would see nothing. You would have to observe the river for a very long period of time to see any changes first hand.
In fact, most people would believe that water doesn’t have an impact on rocks because it’s not instantly recognizable. As a society we have fallen in love with instant gratification so things that are not instantly recognizable are too often disregarded. Therefore, to say that the small action of water beating on rocks doesn’t have an impact is a massive misconception..
The Grand Canyon, one of the 7 wonders of the world, was formed due to the result of a river running over rocks for over 6 million years. Masterpieces take time, and a commitment to small actions. (I'n not saying your goals will take 6 million years but you get the idea!)
Small consistent actions + time = massive change
I invite you to commit to a small action and see it through for a full month to start. I promise you will see some magical things begin to happen in your life.

4ySam Demma Boom!!! Small actions every day put us a step closer toward the larger vision of whatever the goal we may have. It has been a process for me to embrace and celebrate the small “victories” or “actions” everyday.

5yThis is one totally valid way to create change in physical system, where things like erosion can be calculated using Newtonian physics. There is a second way that small perturbations can create massive shifts in areas of Complex Non-linear Dynamical systems. The most famous example of that is the Butterfly Effect, which describes weather systems, the area where a lot of the early ideas of complexity were discovered by Lorenz at MIT. Over the decades we have learned that our societies and groups such as corporations and markets behave like complex dynamical systems, explaining why predicting movements still evades most fund managers, companies have a hard time raising engagement across their workforce and certain problems that almost everyone thinks are bad, like hunger and poverty, are hard to correct. Combining the impact of conscientious movement to better outcomes while evolving the system looking for those times of accelerating progress and enlightenment seems like a solid strategy for a better future.
