How Telling Your Whole Story Can Land You Your Dream Job
A year ago, a friend who is a UX/UI Designer was looking for a job. Where before there had been 60 other candidates, they were now finding that positions had 300 candidates.
We did a work session to improve their approach, and I conducted an exercise to help them define the full spectrum of who they were, beyond just their UX/UI skills.
They loved design but were fascinated by nature, loved blockchain technology, wanted to give back to artists, and were passionate about finance and investing.
Once we defined these, I encouraged them to tell that story in their portfolio and during interviews.
A month later, they got a job at a fintech blockchain startup, leading the design of a financial product.
The CEO told them they were chosen from 400 applicants. The reason? Because they showcased their personal art projects.
The CEO, in addition to having founded and exited multiple startups, was also an artist.
The moral of the story? Accomplishing your goals might be on the other side of defining and expressing the full spectrum of who you really are.
