How to Thrive in the Age of Microwaved Lead Gen
Personalization at scale in cold outreach has been the holy grail of sales and marketing for decades. Now we finally have AI to make it possible, so how do we leverage that to our advantage?
We've seen different applications so far - from scraping data from different sources to patching pieces together to make a comprehensive story that somehow fakes thorough research.
But is personalization good enough to do the job the right way? The good old "show me that you know me" model isn't quite the solution anymore. You don't just get someone's attention by demonstrating you've put the effort to write a prompt and that's fair.
Don't get me wrong - personalization is fine as long as it makes good sense and brings any value in terms of knowledge shared. It's your foundation to support the point that you are trying to make.
The tricky part about multiple data points is that you never know what's the best way to tie them together in order to resonate with your prospect. In fact chances are that you'd miss more often than you strike the right chord.

So what to do instead then? Let's aim for being relevant and bring value.
Use AI's immense potential for true deep research but don't leave it all on autopilot. Think in terms of how your product or solution might fit in your prospect's reality or as much of it that you could identify and be aware of.
One of the risks with using AI for research and outreach is that it gives you overconfidence about things with data that's not necessary true most often. So instead of being assertive, let's be humble and assume.
Good outreach is driven by careful observations, genuine curiosity and reasonable knowledge sharing that brings high-quality relevant information to your prospects.
Therefore, let's scale down the sheer numbers and scale up our research & compatibility. Being a good fit at the right time is what matters.
