How Tom Ignored the Gurus & 4x'd His Newsletter Income (Here's How)

"I think I'm done. This clearly isn't working."

That's what Tom told me a few months ago. He'd followed all the "expert" advice:

  • Posted daily on LinkedIn
  • Published on Substack every week
  • Spent hours crafting the perfect headlines
  • Even paid for ads to grow his list

After 8 months of grinding, he had 341 subscribers. Zero paid. His best month brought in a whopping $127 from freelance work.

"I'm spending 20 hours a week creating content that nobody sees," he sighed. "I can't keep doing this."

Here's the thing - Tom was actually a brilliant writer. His content was solid. But like most creators, he was stuck in the "single platform trap," believing that just writing great content was enough.

That's when I showed him something different.

Instead of creating MORE content, we completely shifted HOW he used his existing content. The simple framework I showed him turned his Substack posts into LinkedIn opportunities, and his LinkedIn presence into subscriber growth.


Within 90 days:

  • His free subscriber count jumped from 341 to 1,827
  • 76 people joined his paid newsletter at $15/month
  • He landed 3 consulting clients worth $12,000 combined
  • He sold a recorded masterclass making around $100 / day

The best part? He's spending LESS time creating content than before.

"The craziest thing," Tom told me last week, "is that I'm basically sharing the same insights. But now they actually reach people who need them."


Wanting to grow on Substack & LinkedIn?

Here's a quick win you can implement today. Take your last Substack post and break it into 3 LinkedIn posts using this format:

  • Start with "I used to think [common belief] until I discovered..."
  • Share your main insight in 2-3 short paragraphs
  • End with "Want the full breakdown? Link in comments"
  • Put your Substack link in the first comment

…and, use some type of viral, sharable media to go with your post. (Please just trust me on this…) It can be a good video, quota, graphic, etc. This is key.


One of Tom's first posts using this template got 22,000 views and added 47 subscribers in 24 hours.
