How To Turn Off That Negative Inner Voice!

How To Turn Off That Negative Inner Voice!

Happy Saturday LinkedIn!

I'm trying to get it moving today but I don't feel the same mojo as I normally do. Feeling sluggish. It was a long week! I wonder what men back in the 1950's did to relax. Play golf? Go for a drive? Cut the lawn?

I know they weren't on LinkedIn. That's for sure. One thing we do know for sure is change happens. The world keeps spinning. New replaces old. But how do we combat sluggishness, lethargy, and that negative inner voice whether it be on a lovely Saturday or any other day of the week? I'm glad you asked! I have a few tips:

  1. Become aware of your thoughts but recognize that just because you think something, it doesn't mean it's true. Our thoughts are often exaggerated and disproportionate to what we are thinking.
  2. Stop fretting and fussing. The more you try to avoid thinking about something, the more you are likely to focus on it. Try distracting yourself with an activity. Go for a walk, read a book, or continue with a hobby. Just chill, man.
  3. Examine why you are feeling sluggish or lethargic. Why is that negative inner voice on overdrive? Recognize why your critical thoughts are exaggeratedly negative and what you can do to refute these thoughts or beliefs.
  4. Replace overly critical thoughts with more reasonable and accurate statements. Convert a negative thought into a positive thought. Be more rational and realistic. Face that negative thought head on and try to find out why.
  5. Consider what would or could happen if that negative thought actually became true. Often, the worst-case scenario really isn't as bad as we thought it might be. Remind yourself that you can handle tough times and all types of problems. This will increase your confidence and decrease the barrage of worrisome thoughts.

These five tips should help you turn off that negative and monotonous inner voice. It's Saturday. You worked hard this week. Don't feel guilty if you do something for yourself today. I think I'm headed to the range to hit a few balls. That should do it. Happy Saturday!
