🔥 " The Captivating Power of First Impressions & Empowering Beliefs"💡

First impressions are absolutely pivotal.

It was the year 2021, just three minutes before my first LIVE workshop after the pandemic at the University of Dubai, I could feel the weight of anticipation hanging in the air, my heart pounding with nervousness.

It's been a few years since I conducted a live workshop or training

This moment was filled with emotions, as I knew the first impression I made would greatly influence my chances of having a successful career workshop and provide value to my students!

As I entered the room, I could sense the eyes of the students & lecturers fixed upon me.

Their initial evaluation had already begun, even before I uttered a single word. It was as if time had slowed down, each second stretching out into eternity.

In those fleeting moments, as an experienced Recruitment Manager & Coach with over 13 years of experience, I remembered the immense power of first impressions.

I wanted my workshop to be an astounding success!

I recalled a captivating interview experiment I had read about, conducted by Carlin Flora. It involved showing individuals short video clips of job applicants during the early stages of an interview, ranging from 20 to 32 seconds.

The surprising outcome of the story?

Surprisingly, the ratings given by these viewers closely aligned with those of trained interviewers who had spent much more time interacting with the candidates.

The result: The 20- to 32- second ratings were basically the same as the ratings from the trained interviewers.[Source:]

This revelation served as a jolt of inspiration. I understood that I had the ability to seize their attention and leave an indelible mark within that short window of opportunity. I had to make every second count.

Fueled by newfound determination, I drew a deep breath and embarked on the career workshop with unwavering confidence.

I recognized the significance of projecting self-assurance and likability, understanding their pivotal role in shaping their perception of me. Despite the limited time, I skillfully conveyed career strategies through an interactive workshop, drawing from my vast experience of hiring hundreds of professionals like them.

With purposeful precision, I utilized every word and gesture to leave a lasting positive impact. My goal was to empower them with the knowledge and career insights to inspire them to begin their career journey ahead with intention, purpose, and a belief in their own limitless potential.

To start planning their Career Journey Ahead with Purpose, Intention and Empowering Beliefs.

Looking back, that brief moment of realization was a turning point for me.

I learned that first impressions are not limited by time but by the power we invest in them.

The experiment taught me the importance of presenting myself authentically and compellingly, even in the shortest of interactions.

The surprising outcome of the Career Workshop?

I walked away with a sense of Accomplishment and an Award!

I had given my all, recognizing that the initial moments of any interaction can make or break an opportunity.

I carry this valuable lesson with me everyday, vowing to always approach each encounter with the same level of thoughtfulness and intention.

Comment below and share your thoughts on the impact of first impressions in your own life.

This captivating example serves as a powerful reminder of the immense impact of first impressions.

When we step in front of an audience, we have but a fleeting moment to seize their attention and leave an indelible mark.

We have very little time to set the stage for a successful speech.

It is during these initial moments that the audience begins to form judgments, even before a single word is spoken.

As seen from the study example shared above, the audience members have began evaluating immediately.

What we sometimes forget, since, we are so focused on the words we have to say, is that, we are being evaluated even before we open our mouths.

"Whether you think you can, or you think you can't, you're right."- Henry Ford .

Intriguingly, our beliefs play a vital role in shaping these pivotal first impressions.

Imagine a moving car, where its speed symbolizes our actions and achievements.

Our beliefs act as the accelerator, influencing the speed at which we progress.

Similar to a car's speed not surpassing the perceived safe limit, our actions and accomplishments often remain within the boundaries defined by our beliefs.

Beliefs not only impact the speed of an individual actions but also shape the collective mindset of a team or community, the passengers in the journey too

If one's belief is that 40 km per hour is a safe speed, then the acceleration of the car will only be pushed up to that level.

In other words, our beliefs shape our actions and limit our potential for growth and progress

Our limiting beliefs hold us back from our true potential , when we unconsciously set a cap on what we believe is possible.

Just like the car's speed won't exceed the perceived safe limit, our actions and achievements often won't surpass the boundaries defined by our beliefs.

But here's the empowering truth:

Identifying and challenging our limiting beliefs is the key to unlocking our full potential.

Just as we can reset the speed limit and redefine actions and behaviors, consciously adopting empowering beliefs expands the boundaries and accelerates our personal and professional growth.

When we believe in our capabilities, set higher expectations, embrace a growth mindset, we create an environment that fuels our progress & opens doors to new opportunities.

  • By embracing empowering beliefs,
  • We reshape our mindset,
  • Set higher expectations, and
  • Embrace a growth-oriented perspective.

This creates an environment that propels our progress and opens doors to new opportunities.

Remember the wise words of Henry Ford,

"Whether you think you can, or you think you can't, you're right."

Beliefs have a profound impact on our actions and outcomes.

Let's cast aside limiting beliefs and consciously adopt empowering ones.

By doing so, we redefine our potential, break through self-imposed barriers, and accelerate our journey towards success.

So, my friends, cherish the power of first impressions, recognize the influence of beliefs, and harness their transformative potential.

As you step forward, captivate your audience, and pursue your dreams, embrace the full extent of your capabilities.

With unwavering belief, conscious empowerment, and a growth mindset, you are destined to achieve extraordinary heights of accomplishment.

Let's summarize

Your full potential isn’t a destination; it’s a path. It’s a journey of liberation — from your own limitations and the limitations that others (often with good intentions) put upon you. Reaching your full potential takes patience, courage, self-awareness, and a whole lot of grit. Fatima Williams (Assoc. CIPD HR) American psychologist Dr. Carol Dweck’s research shows that embracing challenges, focusing on effort over outcome, and having a belief that you can grow and improve are critical components to reaching your full potential.
