HR Confluence 2017

It’s heartening to see an increasing acceptance of the notion that HR people will be effective when they work through the line managers, rather than trying to do everything by themselves. This is what HR scholars had been writing since last three decades.

It was very reassuring to hear Mr. Harsh Mariwala, the Chairman - Marico Ltd, emphasize this point repeatedly, in his opening address at the HR Confluence we hosted on 12th April 2017. “HR needs to function as a catalyst and resource person for HR issues in an organization. Actions need to be taken by the line management. Talent management and development is not to be left to HR alone. It’s entire organization’s agenda and needs to be driven by the CEO’’ he said, reflecting on his experience of building Marico. And, he should know.

We sincerely hope that such thoughts from the business leaders who have led by example will help set right expectations for HR folks and help them deliver better.

The executive summary of the deliberations at the confluence follows. Watch out this space.
