"Today is the day to pause, celebrate the wins and each other as hidden heroes."

Increasing Awareness of Our Profession

One of the primary goals of HR Professionals Day is to increase awareness of our profession to all. Often misunderstood, our work extends far beyond administrative tasks. We are strategic partners, problem-solvers, and advocates for our employees. From talent acquisition to employee relations, we are committed to creating positive and inclusive work environments.

What It's Truly Like to Be an HR Professional

Being an HR professional is a rewarding but challenging endeavor. We navigate complex issues, balance competing priorities, and strive to create a workplace where everyone feels valued and supported. Our days are filled with a diverse range of tasks, from conducting performance reviews to implementing new HR initiatives. Despite the challenges, we find immense satisfaction in knowing that our work directly impacts the lives of our employees.

"HR should be selfless. It's not about us. It's about you. We are the prism in which organizations meet employees where they are."

Prioritizing Well-being: A Focus for HR Professionals

Employee well-being has become a critical focus for HR professionals. Check out this LinkedIn article, where I explore my own journey in prioritizing well-being as an HR professional.

We must lead by example, champion well-being, and create a culture where employees feel comfortable taking breaks, using vacation days, and maintaining a healthy work-life balance. This approach not only benefits employees but also leads to a more engaged and productive workforce.

Building a More Diverse and Equitable Workplace Starts With Us!

As HR professionals, we have a unique responsibility to champion diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) within our organizations. A Forbes article I penned highlights the importance of having a diverse HR department itself in order to better understand and respond to the needs of a diverse employee population.

The article also provides three key strategies for transforming your HR department into a DEI role model:

  • Considering non-traditional profiles and hiring based on skill: We should move beyond traditional hiring practices and focus on finding candidates with the skills and experience to excel in the role, regardless of their background.

  • Meeting employees where they are with DEI: DEI initiatives need to be tailored to the specific needs of our workforce. We should actively solicit feedback from employees from all backgrounds to ensure our programs are effective.
  • Investing in professional coaching: Providing coaching and development opportunities for HR professionals can equip them with the knowledge and skills to champion DEI effectively.

By implementing these strategies, HR departments can play a leading role in creating a more inclusive and equitable workplace for all employees.
