Can A Sicken Modern Medicine Be Cured? Understand Human Beings' Closed-Mind & Stupidity

“Don't let your doctor kill you!” On November 13, 2015, British medical doctor Erika schwartz wrote in The Daily Mail, “Modern medicine doesn't train them to see patients as individuals” (Erika Schwartz, 2015).

Modern Medicine Is Seldom Effective

In 1979, American physician Robert Mendelsohn argued in his book Confessions of a Medical Heretic (1979):

  • Modern Medicine's treatments for diseases are seldom effective, and that they are often more dangerous than the diseases they're designed to treat.
  • The dangers are compounded by the widespread usage of dangerous procedures for non-diseases.
  • More than ninety percent of Modern Medicine could disappear from the face of the earth - doctors, hospitals, drugs and equipment- and the effect on our health would be immediate and beneficial."

Dr. Mendelsohn's startling hypothesis that people would be healthier if 90% of Modern Medicine were scrapped was supported by the following facts.

In Bogota, Columbia, Los Angeles County, California and in Israel, when the doctors went on strike in these three different places, the death rate went down dramatically. During the month-long physicians' strike in lsrael in 1973, the doctors reduced their daily patient contact from 65,000 to 7,000. Guess what happened? "According to the Jerusalem Burial Society, the lsraeli death rate dropped fifty percent during that month (A Book Review. 2002).

When Evidence Says No, Doctors Say Yes

Again, decades later, the status quo still remains unchanged. On February 22, 2017, health science journalists (David Epstein et al, 2017) wrote in The Atlantic:

When Evidence Says No, but Doctors Say Yes. Long after research contradicts common medical practices, patients continue to demand them and physicians continue to deliver. The result is an epidemic of unnecessary and unhelpful treatments.

Can Modern Medicine Be Cured?

Can Medicine be Cured ? Dr O’Mahony asked in his book (2020). However, it seems “... there is no miracle cure for contemporary medicine”, according to a review on O’Mahony's book published in British Journal of General Practice (Moore JR, 2019).

Is there a way to cure the sicken medicine? Or, is there a way to reset the modern medicine's golden era? The answer is yes if we can find a versatile “magic bullet”, which is powerful enough to magically deal with at least 80% of all illnesses encountered in our daily life.

Is There Such A Magic Bullet?

Extremely few in today's world would believe that there can be such a powerful magic bullet for medicine, except in their dreams or in fairy tales.

The truth is there IS one, but it was deeply buried in 2000 years of dust and human being's closed-mind & stupidity.

Note that even a tiny, and distorted portion of this magic bullet – today's meridian acupuncture or dermatome-based acupuncture -- have already changed many healthcare practitioners' career perspectives forever (Read this, and this)! And it even saved a 130 years old non-conventional medical profession which would have otherwise been history (Read this)!

Human Being's Closed-Mind & Stupidity

To make the “deeply buried” magic bullet readily accepted by today's human beings, we need to do three things first:

  1. Sweep away the dust;
  2. Open our closed mind; and
  3. Banish our stupidity.

By saying "closed mind", I mean the mind which is trapped in many echo chambers made of pet theories and lacks free thinking of the possibility that "on the top of 1+1 =2, 1 +1 can also be made to equal 1000, even 100,000" ... Many of us are unable to separate the true jewels (observed phenomena) from the charmingly-looking conjectures. The latter are often wrapped in the cloth of science.

One does not need to search far to understand why we human beings are stupid. It is simply because we are human beings. Psychology studies revealed that humans are not purely rational beings. They switch between fast, intuitive thinking and slow, rational thinking, depending on the situation.

Particularly in the world of medical professions, overconfidence effect is a huge factor at play causing stupidity. We tend to overrate our abilities and knowledge and the accuracy of our beliefs. There is also the phenomenon called "group think" where groups prioritize consensus and conformity over questioning and critical thinking.

Sweeping away the dust is not too difficult if we spend enough time digging into the history, but coping with human being ourselves' closed-mind and stupidity is a grueling task.

Nevertheless, pushed by a tiny group of open-minded critical thinkers, weird heretics and / or intellectually humble skeptics, science of medicine will advance, albeit in a slow process.

There are only two ways that could lead to curing or improving the sicken medicine: 1. Find and accept a powerful versatile magic bullet; otherwise, 2. perhaps unavoidably, AI will eventually take over the sicken modern medicine which is essentially just a triage job. Human beings make more errors than AI in performing this job.
