Hundreds Of Wyoming Coal Jobs Threatened By Federal Regulation, Legislator Says

A state legislator says the future of a coal mine that employs hundreds of Sheridan County people is threatened by proposed federal regulation. The Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement (OSMRE) is preparing an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) to evaluate the proposed mine plan modification for a federal coal lease at Spring Creek Mining in Montana. They’ve developed four alternatives, three of which pose significant risks to Spring Creek's operations. OSMRE is currently accepting public comments on its draft EIS.
