NO, I AM NOT DEAD – I AM ON HOLIDAYS 😊

People worry for you when you don’t post, don’t blog, and most alarmingly, don’t answer your phone.

For the first few days, they get annoyed. Then they get truly annoyed. Then they get seriously worried for you. They may consider you dead, really. If you think about it, who hasn’t picked up their phone and hasn’t called back for about ten days? And who doesn’t even send the easy-peasy annoying message, which is achieved just by a light push of your thumb, ‘Can’t talk right now. Can I call you later?’

Well, I did it! I wasn’t available for ten days. At all-at all not available. I didn’t even take my phone with me.

Does it make you feel terrified? Maybe angry? Maybe even jealous? Dig deep – how does it make you feel and why?

In our ‘always available’ modern world, it is unheard of for people to be disconnected. If my son is running late, I would text him right away to check. If I need to ask a client a work-related question, I will text or call without thinking twice. If my hubby is in the shop, I will send him a line of messages about all the items I forgot to add to the original shopping list. And there is, of course, my mum’s call – I wouldn’t dare not to pick up, as it would be a disaster!

But let’s get real. Sometimes, we all need to leave our phones behind and look at the blue sky, fully take in the scenery, sit at the dinner table without checking or thinking about those annoying notifications beeping in the background, or stay alone just with our own thoughts.

I say phone detox should be even more important than body detox! I say we all should do it sometimes!

But before you praise my braveness, start getting inspired and begin writing hymns in the honour of my phone liberation, I have to confess.

·        Not being connected was a necessary precaution which I couldn’t avoid.

·        I told some of the important contacts in advance that I would not be available, and for good reasons. They were all very supportive, which felt amazing!

·        Some people knew my ‘in case of emergency’ contact.

So, it wasn’t probably as bold as you may think. But still… pretty damn fantastic! 😉
