This week we saw one of our own at The Gold Studios , Josh & Momma, partner with ByteDance ’s ‘other app’, called Lemon8 .
I’m sure you’re asking the same thing as most people:
What is Lemon8?
A lifestyle app, akin to a blend of Instagram and Pinterest , Lemon8 is photo-heavy but allows users to share recipes, outfits, travel guides, and more. Popular categories on the app include:
Fashion, Makeup, Skincare, Travel, Health & Wellness, Fitness, and Food.
What happened to Lemon8? Why don’t I know much about it?
While Lemon8 had an extremely successful start, its momentum slowed. In its first few months, Lemon8 was one of the most downloaded lifestyle apps in the United States, attracting 4.1 million users in just a few months.
These days, it seems that activity has dropped off. Data shows that the app’s daily active users have nearly halved. Regardless, it appears that Lemon8 initially gained popularity with many of TikTok’s creators — a young user base consisting mostly of Gen Zers.
Overall, in the last year, ByteDance never really pushed the Lemon8 app through creator partnerships or any form of advertising.
Until now..
Since the start of the year, the partnerships team and I have been collaborating with our creators, such as 'Josh & Momma,' on several occasions to work with Lemon8. You can check out the content from this week below:
From what we’re observing, it’s clear that mass awareness is the goal for Lemon8. Therefore, it's no surprise that we’ve had Josh & Momma working with the ByteDance app on multiple occasions.

Not unsurprising as the creative duo has reached more than 30.5 million in their last 15 videos, averaging just over 2 million per video. In the mix of those 15 videos is also Josh & Momma's previous Lemon8 ad content which gained more than 2.7million views:
It's always great to see one of The Gold Studios' roster winning an edition of The Creator ad of the week. At the same time, we're looking forward to seeing the further development of Lemon8 in 2024 and beyond.
