If I can make it here, I can make it anywhere

As many of you know, I currently publish my articles (many articles, almost daily) on platforms dedicated to authoring, such as medium.com and vocal.media.

One of the most common questions for those who create content, such as myself, is whether it is still worthwhile to write articles for LinkedIn.

Writing with a purpose.

LinkedIn, for me, is more than just a place to look for jobs and make connections. Of course, I understand that publishing my text on the website can help my career tremendously. In addition to facilitating networking and job searches, the site is an important personal branding tool.

But honestly, I love the idea of writing my articles based on my own experiences. What is new in my industry? What new skills will my profession require in the coming years? What are the most current AI discussions and research? When writing an article, my goal is to discuss topics that I am familiar with and believe others would benefit from knowing about.

However, I am also eager to share career advice. I enjoy sharing my career steps and prospects, my vision for how to be successful in any profession, the difficulties I had to face, and where people can look for inspiration to move on, but also stories of triumph, such as one article I wrote recalling a painful dismissal I suffered in my career some years ago, which brought me more rewards than losses for my career.

LinkedIn can serve as a kind of "sounding board for ideas" in this regard. If you have a question, you can write a text in which you share it with others and solicit their feedback on the subject.

When I publish an article, all of my social network connections should receive a notification about the new post. Given that I have over 25.000 followers on LinkedIn (my largest audience, followed by Twitter with +1000 followers and Medium.com with +1000 followers), this can significantly impact how my ideas reach people worldwide.

Practical Aspects

Unfortunately, from the point of view of editing, I certainly feel more comfortable writing daily articles using dedicated platforms; the Linkedin editor, in my opinion, still has a lot to improve, but certainly, I will continue to publish my articles on Medium.com and Vocal.

Another problem I noticed when publishing my articles here on LinkedIn is related to the content indexing for search engines (SEO), which is the first step to obtain organic visits from search engines like Google. Hardly my articles on LinkedIn reach relevant positions when (if) indexed on Google, while my articles on Medium.com normally have a pretty much better position with standard SEO optimization.

LinkedIn is a great tool for organic reach within the platform (if you have a considerable number of followers, of course) and visibility of your professional profile.

Going beyond the metrics

When I first started publishing here, my goal was to write and share my ideas, and it did not take long for me to realize that, in addition to the apparent metrics for views and likes, others were far more important.

For me, the most important metric is the number of impacted people who have not been reached. Another important aspect is developing relationships with my target audience, and LinkedIn is unrivaled in this regard, with a perfect balance of views, likes, and comment engagement.

But what matters to me is the interactivity and networking that only on LinkedIn is possible ... while maintaining this unique opportunity to connect with fantastic professionals from all over the world.

Final thoughts

Considering all of the pros and cons and analyzing the number of views I can get in other platforms where I regularly publish, my general observation is that articles' reach on LinkedIn hardly can compete. But, obviously (at least for me...), the number of views is not the only metric that matters. As I mentioned, LinkedIn is and will remain for a while the place to be when it comes to interactions and networking.

It means that I will also dedicate a short editorial time here on Linkedin, probably with a monthly reminder, a weekly or monthly newsletter (we'll see) with links to my articles on each platform. Still, I also intend to publish some highly relevant and exclusive articles related to my LinkedIn network.

Today, to start this new trend, I decided to collect all the articles that I have already published elsewhere, in a list (very interesting, if I think about it ...), so if you want, you can find the updated list of my articles available in the different online platforms:

See you next time.
