Question from a subscriber: "I have 2,000 followers on social media. I want to start a podcast so I can get more followers and leads."

Now, I know I'm about to ruffle some feathers with this.

(Sigh)

There is no clearer way I can express myself:

DO NOT do it.

Take these actions TODAY:

  • Get a bigger following and an audience that gobbles your content up before you launch.
  • Get more followers and engagement by focusing on the first line of your social media posts. It is the killer hook that stops the scroll. If the first line is bad, nobody will pay attention to you.
  • Once you get more social media followers, get them to sign up for your podcast email list so they can be notified when you launch.
  • If you can't get at least 5k people on your podcast email list, don't launch the podcast.
  • For an example of a great social post, check out this tweet by Thomas Kopelman. All four lines here are powerful, but the first line is especially striking. You see how well this tweet thread did - 614k views.

"If you build it, they will come" does not apply to financial advisor podcasts.

Most of you are better off keeping the $2,000 a month it will cost for the podcast, plus time and energy, and directing it towards making your existing content better instead of starting something new.

Yeah?

Yaaaaah.

BOOM - there you go, today's marketing tip for ya!
