I was tagged a thief that year— This is not a click bait, read on to find out what happened

My friend visited me that year and I loved her hairstyle. I told her I wanted to do the same thing, so we took off on our journey to see who would be able to make the same hairstyle for me.

We met a few people on the way, some who commended the hairstyle while others condemned it. Well, I was determined to do the hairstyle.

When we finally got someone to make it for me, it was a hell kind of pain.

When we finally headed home, I blamed her for not explaining how painful it was and the stress that came with making it.

She, of course, blamed me for not asking.

As we sat on my bed that day after the whole thing, I got an inspiration to write about my experience and the lessons attached.

Many of us are more concerned about the glory without caring to know the story was the highlight of the content. I posted it online on a Sunday and I was surprised at what greeted me when I logged into my Facebook account.

Someone had shared that post and a mutual friend of a lady who was also a writer saw the post.

So, they called the attention of the writer to my post and I was tagged a thief. It was so strange because I have always been one who stood against plagiarism.

I even went into the DM of the said writer to explain that I had never come across her post or her name before that moment but she never cared to listen. It was a tough moment for me.

Let me tell you what saved me that day:

🟡I had evidence of the story that it happened. I am someone who takes a lot of pictures for memory's sake.

🟡My audience came in mass to defend me because they knew my style of writing. One of them said “We know Bunmi and her style of writing. This is how she writes.”

At the end of the day, people persuaded her to bring out her post to compare with mine and guess what?

The content was entirely different coupled with the writing style.

The only similarity was that she also did a particular hairstyle she saw on her cousin and also drove out almost the same lessons.

It was an embarrassing moment as she deleted all her posts where she tagged me as a thief. Even though she didn't outright apologize after the whole thing, that event taught me a lot of things.

🔸In the bid to sound like others, some of us go as far as copying their writing styles. It is good to learn from others but let your originality shine out.

These days(thank goodness it is reducing though), you see some write-ups and a particular creator comes to mind. You should never copy others if you want to stand out.

🔸How about those who copy someone else's content word for word and see nothing wrong with it? I have even seen people who copy my headline word for word and I just smile when I stumble on them.

If you want to become an enviable brand, you should stick to authenticity and originality. Don't ever strive to be someone else.

Let your originality always shine through.
