I think we all hold on tight too much

Last week, I went to Thorpe Park with my other half, Ryan. Swarm was, by far, my favourite ride. I went on it like 5 times. Yep, it’s THAT GOOD.

One of the times, Ryan said to me in the queue, “Try and let your body go floppy. Let yourself loose. You’ll feel more.”

I honestly struggled with that. I did it for like a second at the beginning but that was it. I couldn’t let myself let go. It was SO HARD. I kept feeling tense and stiff. The thought of letting my body flop like dead weight was horrifying. Why would anyone want to do that?

Ryan, on the other hand, did it quite naturally. He’s a thrill seeker at heart and that’s what I love about him. He moves through the world in a weightless way. I admire that. But still… making your body go floppy on a roller coaster is next level. I mean…WHATTTT? HOW do you...even...?

That’s how I think we are in life. Most of us walk around and move around scared and stiff, like we’re always strapped into a roller coaster chair.

But in this, there’s a lesson for us all:

When we hold on too tight, we’re resisting change and, as Buddhist teachings say, we’re creating our own suffering. But what happens when you let yourself flop? What happens when you stop holding on so tightly?

You feel things more. You create more abundance. And you allow new, greater experiences to carry you to where you’re meant to be.

Here’s to letting go a little more. At Thorpe Park, at work and in our everyday lives.
