In college, id8 founder Kriston Sellier thought she wanted to be a speech pathologist. She was attending Illinois State University working her way through her courses and trying to figure things out. Probably due to Kriston’s affinity for artistry, illustration, and general doodling, there arose an opportunity to speak with Ms. Betty Chapman, the Dean of the art school on campus. This brief and informal meeting forever altered the trajectory of Kriston’s life.
The topic of their fateful conversation - the burgeoning field of graphic design.
“I thought it sounded so glamorous. I started imagining a life as a starving artist. I just fell in love with the idea.”
Even as a child, Kriston had always enjoyed doodling and building on artistic expressions from stick figure men, to farm animals and everything in between. She hearkened back to her time growing up on a farm in Mennonite country and being in church as a young child with the bulletin in hand, gripping a pencil and duplicating on paper what she was seeing in her mind’s eye. On the pew, Kriston would draw a little, then her father would take turns drawing a little more. By the end of the alter call, there would be an illustrative adventure created in pencil right next to the prayer requests and dates for the next dinner on the ground.
As a little girl trying to keep quiet during Sunday services, she never envisioned she would one day be leading id8, a group of nearly 20 artists, designers, and marketing professionals and a dynamic branding agency in the heart of the Marietta Square.
id8 is a branding agency that touts expertise in creating brand experiences that truly resonate with consumers. More than just branding, the full-service agency offers services in advertising, digital presence (including all things websites), and marketing and communications, just to name a few.
Throughout our conversation and tour with Kriston and her staff, familiar threads were arising through our discussions.
“I feel supported here.”
“I have a chance to work with a great team.”
“We, not me.”
“The space makes it fun.”
I have to admit, I wondered if there had been some sort of brainwashing, team-building exercise that took place minutes before our scheduled interview for this spotlight, after hearing the unanimous refrains of the supportive work environment that Kriston and her team has cultivated. Walking around and interviewing individual team members yielded predictable results that reaffirmed their commitment to the team, to Kriston, and to their mission of providing value for their clients.
After enjoying the bright colors and eclectic signage placed around the hallways (noting the illuminated “s” from an old Subway sign), we popped into another room where we met the delightful Quincy Wise. I asked her what she liked about working at id8 and she brightened up. “Here, I feel like my background and insight are appreciated.” Quincy was working on a project for a client and she told me that after the initial concept design, the team passes it around and checks for accuracy before it heads to production. It appeared that at id8, there were no silos, no egos. Harmony abounded and trust seemed pervasive. Quincy gushed, “here…is a place where I wanna go to work.”

All this talk about how great the culture was and how Kriston supports her team so well led me to ask her what her hiring philosophy was.
She paused for a moment of lightning-fast reflection. “We hire the best.”
She went on to tell me that she leans on existing employees to refer their friends. By putting authentic trust in her employees, she feels confident that they will recommend people that would be a good fit. She talked to me about branding and how the culture of a business drives the brand.

Kriston continued talking about their weekly staff meetings where they celebrate the success of a team member and always bring it back to how the whole team succeeded in support.
“Celebrating team wins creates that accountability.”
As she told me about her drive to be a little better every day, I could see the enthusiasm becoming contagious and how she exhibited a natural leadership quality.
According to research, high quality branding package redesigns average forecasted sales improvements of 5.5%. id8 touts the incredible figure of their clients achieving a 15%-20% sales lift.
In 2014, a group of Marietta Square merchants decided to reach out to id8 for an ad campaign intended to boost the profile of the Square. After being presented with a general concept that included mailers and traditional advertising in newspapers, Kriston Sellier turned down the job. She cited the reason being that id8 wasn’t in the business of traditional advertising. A couple of weeks later, Kriston reached back out to the merchants and got a meeting together. She wanted to do a campaign, but she wanted to create an identity and a brand. The merchants agreed with her pitch.
Out of that project came descriptive and catchy lamppost banners and a unifying color and font package.
The Marietta Square Branding Project was born.
Shortly after that brand was initiated, Kriston shared with us that the Square saw a jump of 8% in commercial leasing. Today, the Square is 98.7% leased and remains the most vibrant city center in all of Cobb County and perhaps the Atlanta Metropolitan region.
In addition to marketing and branding, id8 launched a new part of their business model dubbed the id8 collective in 2021. They are leasing part of their office space and conference rooms for those looking to work in a collaborative place with other like-minded professionals. Kriston has seen a tremendous interest in this coworking space which has already seen networking and collaboration. By 2025, Kriston intends on growing the agency and hiring an additional 10-15 people, and the collective is a strong part of her recruitment strategy for accessing a viable talent pool within the same building.
Chris Coltran, author, keynote speaker, and business consultant, believed so much in the collective that he decided to take a corner office, id8 collective’s largest available space for an individual. He overlooks the Square and swears by the vibe in the building.
“The energy here is great. It has a different feel. I’ve worked remotely at home since 2004 and since I’ve been here, my productivity is up 3 times what it was.”
Chris Coltran, the first member of the id8 collective, thinks through ideas for his next book.
As we wrapped up our tour, Kriston showed me the largest conference room she cheekily named “Zeus” named after one of the staff member’s massive dogs by the same name. (They’re big dog lovers over at id8 as they also named their smallest conference room Millie, the tiniest pup in the id8 family.)
It’s in a large, sparkling white conference room that id8 hosts their bimonthly speaker series titled “Top Floor Businesses.” The February talk was presented by Todd Stanton of Stanton Law where he gave practical advice about using referrals for business growth. Over thirty people attended in person and a couple hundred tuned in over Zoom. The plan is to host six of these events a year, each time partnering with a different non-profit. True to form, id8 chose the Cherokee Humane Society in February, encouraging attendees to adopt or foster homeless dogs and cats.
You can pop in and meet the id8 team at their choice 2nd-floor spot on the Square at 30 South Park Square NE Unit 202, Marietta GA 30060 from 9-5 every weekday. You can also reach them by phone at 770.428.8668 or visit them online at id8agency.com
