Observation: note that one of the following phrases is used in Portugal, “”não ter sido nem achado” and another phrase is only used in Brazil, “achar por ruim”. When a person is so narcissistic he believes he is the answer to whatever, he is full of himself, and thus believes he is the maximum.

não ter sido nem achado (Portugal): have no say [not have even been found]

por acidente, por acaso: by chance [accidentally, just in case]

achar por bem: wish [find to be well]

achar por ruim (Br): not to like: [find to be terrible]

achar-se o máximo: be full of oneself [find oneself to be the maximum]

Observation: Note the figurative usage with “a campo abierto” and the rhyme in the idiom “a canas honradas, no hay puertas cerradas”. Also, in American English, we would say “heads or tails” when flipping a coin, but in some Spanish-speaking countries one side is a head, and the other side is a cross. The person in charge, through allusion, is the person in the saddle directing where the horse is to go. Note the colorful way to refer to a tough act when the situation requires it by using a dog with a tooth for wolf meat.

a campo abierto: with no boundaries given [in the open field]

a canas honradas, no hay puertas cerradas: old age and honesty combined open every door [for honorable grey haired individuals, there are no closed doors]

a cara o cruz: by flipping a coin [head or cross]

a cargo: in charge, in the saddle [in charge]

a carne de lobo, diente de perro: when the going gets tough the tough get going [for wolf meat, a dog tooth]
