I'm back, baby! Who am I?

Many people already know my name but, I suspect, not much more. So, for my first LinkedIn Article in almost five years, I offer a brief (re)introduction.

I haven’t written anything significant for quite a while (some would argue I have yet to even write anything of significance!). Since I plan on publishing new content soon, I thought it might be valuable to introduce myself. The last article I published on LinkedIn was September 2019. Clearly,  it has been a busy few years. I’ve added a lot of folks to my network since then. There are still quite a few have followed me since the beginning. If that’s you, then just consider this a refresher. That’s why I’ve titled this piece as I have.

I plan to provide a more in-depth look at my history in the business continuity profession some day. For now, I’m keeping it brief. I’m a business continuity and resilience professional with 22 years of experience. Much of that time has been spent questioning the most fundamental aspects of our work. I also promote a radically different approach.

That approach is called Adaptive Business Continuity, and it represents a significant challenge to the status quo. My colleague, David Lindstedt , and I have written quite extensively about it, so I don’t see a need to go into any great depth at the moment. At its most basic, Adaptive Business Continuity is founded on principles and jettisons the traditional business continuity lifecycle. Most professionals are introduced to the traditional methodology early, sometimes even before they enter the profession. It forms our perspective of what business continuity is and how it should be performed. Changing that perception is difficult. The good news is that the makeup of our profession is changing. With that change comes (I hope) a willingness to consider new ideas and question our profession’s standards and practices. For now, suffice it to say that Adaptive is here to stay. I plan on sticking around for some time myself. I am open to challenges and criticisms of my assertions and of Adaptive Business Continuity. Do I admire your passion and tenacity about your opinions? Absolutely. Will I read your new content?
