'The exhibition 'Peace and Freedom'.
Especially now that the people of Ukraïne are fighting together not to have live under a dictatorship the themes of this exhibition: Freedom, democracy, and tolerance for everyone that took place in 2015 are once again very topical and I like to tell you about them.
About 30 poets from the Zaan circle of poets joined the exhibition, they found their inspiration in the personal stories behind the war memorials of the Second World War in which national socialism dictated life. They remind us of the people who fought for our freedom and gave their lives. During the performance 'Stich by Stich' the poets recited their poems that made us and the visitors feel what it is like to live under a dictatorship and even die for freedom, One poet had written his poem about a couple who had a cafè in the Zaan region and who resisted the Nazi regime. They were betrayed and taken to Germany where they were given a mock trial end sent to death. It was very impressive that this poet made us feel their last moments in life. We realized again what it is like to live in freedom and what democracy means to us.
