The importance of giving back

The importance of giving back

We believe that successful organisations should give back and engage in philanthropic activities where possible in their day-to-day.

Nothing feels better than offering a helping hand by volunteering your time or making a donation that has the possibility to change so many lives.

At Highrise Strata, we value the communities in which we operate, which is why we’re so big on this and generating positive influence through charitable activity.

Not only that, but we think it is important to continue learning about the ongoing issues affecting the environments in which we interact.

CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) shouldn’t just be a HR buzzword, it should be an opportunity to practice values alignment, which is more internally focused and purposeful.

Our commitment to helping our communities and our staff

We are so grateful to interact with people daily. Whether that’s property managers, clients and all stakeholders within our Owners Corporations, our role is very people-centric.

We’re big on building relationships and educating our staff on the issues that occur within the communities in which we operate.

It’s essential that our company echoes the philanthropic values of our team who immerse themselves in community issues, volunteer their time, and make donations where they can.

One way we do this is by participating in team initiatives and activities that contribute to helping important causes and affected communities.

Our charitable work is largely team-driven. Each year as a team, we select local Aussie fundraisers and non-profits to support that are doing incredible work within the community.

On Friday this week our team is participating in Coastrek, a fundraising challenge that goes towards supporting Beyond Blue.

Alongside 10,000 other trekkers, our team will walk together to help support Australians who live with anxiety and depression, as well as those affected by suicide. All the money we raise as a team will go towards the support service and the incredible work they’re doing in helping mental health. We thank all our generous sponsors and donors and encourage anyone with the capacity to spare to donate to this worthy cause.

This is just one example of how as a company you can take part in charitable work whilst also involving the team!

We encourage all organisations to get their team actively involved in important issues and help where they can. Building culture is often difficult in a corporate environment but we see actions such as these to being key building blocks.

Before taking part in any CSR initiative, we want to ensure that our work is worthwhile and impactful. It is important to consider the reason behind what you’re doing. Does it align with your values? Will it help target an issue you care about? Is the work meaningful? Knowing your “why” is important as it will help guide your work.

Highlighting our local community heroes

Every year the Highrise Strata team nominates a range of non-profit organisations to support that are doing incredible work within their communities. We would like to use this opportunity and platform to further highlight some these charities, all of whom the team at Highrise Strata have supported over the years, and showcase the inspirational steps they are taking in promoting their causes.

FARA Australia

1 in every 30,000 Australians is affected by Friedreich Ataxia, a degenerative muscle disease that can lead to a loss of coordination, fatigue, vision impairment, hearing loss, slurred speech, and a serious heart condition. Yet there is no treatment and no cure.

Since 2015, the team from Highrise Strata has supported the work of FARA Australia, a not-for-profit organisation that supports research into treatments and a cure for Friedreich Ataxia.

Since FARA Australia does not receive State or Commonwealth Government support, it relies largely on family and friends of Friedreich Ataxia patients and businesses within Australia to fund its research programs.

We commend the incredible work FARA Australia is doing to start conversations about the condition and promote knowledge sharing within the scientific and medical profession.

Lift the Lid

Whether that be yourself or someone you know, every year 1 in 5 people will experience some form of mental illness.

To help future generations, time and money must be invested into research to discover how we can prevent and manage these illnesses.

This year our team will be supporting the Lift the Lid Charity Golf Day fundraiser to support mental health research. A great day out on the course whilst also supporting this worthy cause.

To help future generations, time and money need to be invested in research to find out how we can prevent and manage these illnesses.

Rotary Glenferrie and Australian Rotary Health host the Lift the Lid Charity Golf Day fundraiser played at the magnificent Kingston Heath Golf Club in May 2022.

A.P.G.O

We currently have a bronze annual sponsorship with Australian Police Golden Oldies (A.P.G.O), a charity that helps support organisations that take families of officers who have lost their lives or suffered major injuries while in the line of duty. The non-profit is made up of retired state and federal police officers who represent the Australian Policing affiliation in the game of Rugby Union.

ERC Victoria (Edmund Rice Camps)

In 2021, the Highrise Strata team sponsored Edmund Rice Camps, an organisation that provides recreational camps and programs for children, adolescents, and families, experiencing adversity, marginalisation, and social isolation in the community. ERC Vic works in close partnership with the community to deliver programs that transform lives, while also providing development opportunities to the many young adults who volunteer.

Our donation helped to fund a full GEM program over the summer of 2022 which included three days of activities for 24 participants and 28 volunteers.

The programs offered by the camp are designed to help participants develop trust, emerge outside their comfort zone, connect with others and learn more about the community.

PIF (Property Industry Foundation)

PIF is a non-profit foundation that helps tackle the issue of youth homelessness by building homes that are safe and secure.

44,000 young Australians are affected by homelessness and every night 1 in 3 young people are turned away from accommodation.

The charity provides a range of fundraising events and volunteering opportunities that help raise awareness and funds towards their cause.

The Highrise Strata team continue to support their fundraising efforts by attendance to as many of their events as we can.
