New CT scanners at German airports coming

Last year, Munich Airport and Frankfurt Airport implemented the first CT scanners which will further simplify and accelerate processes. Now the Capital City Airport Berlin Brandenburg also wants to equip their security controls with the new highly advanced technology. The airports will upgrade their security systems step by step in the course of the following years. The goal is to save time and reduce waiting queues at security checkpoints by making screening of carry-on luggage easier in the future.

Modernization of border management

With the introduction of the new European Entry/Exit-System (EES), which is part of the EU Commission’s revised Smart Borders Package, at the end of 2024, the border control process at airports will change significantly. In order to communicate the new control steps and requirements as clearly and simply as possible, BARIG participates in a working group organized by the German Federal Police, the airport association ADV, and other stakeholders involved. The aim is to set up a uniform terminology and provide useful information material to facilitate communication for airlines, airports, and their passengers on this matter.

New Skilled Immigration Act

Germany, and other countries as well, urgently need skilled workers in all different spheres of the economy. The new Skilled Immigration Act (FEG), which has been gradually coming into force from November 2023, is intended to mitigate the gap in the labor markets. The new law shall facilitate temporary immigration to Germany for qualified workers from abroad. This can help to improve services, performance, and operational processes at airports – for a better passenger experience. BARIG is in close dialog with politicians, academics, and other stakeholders. We will keep you informed on further developments.
