In-ground vs. above-ground pool? Here are some considerations to keep in mind!

A refreshing dip in a pool is the best way to cool down and relax on those long, hot summer days. The experience is even more enjoyable when it is your very own private oasis! It is important to take into account many factors when considering a backyard pool. Choosing between above-ground or in-ground pools is one of your decisions. Consider these pros and cons before taking the plunge.

Swimming pool built in-ground

Advantages:

  • An attractive addition to your yard; can enhance its appearance
  • You can choose from a variety of shapes, sizes, materials, and colours.
  • Cooler weather can be enjoyed with a heated pool
  • The product can last for many decades if properly maintained

Negatives:

  • Installing and maintaining an inground pool is more costly than an aboveground pool
  • Installs more slowly and requires more space
  • Special building permits may be required

Swimming pool above ground

Advantages:

  • In-ground pools are more expensive than above-ground pools
  • Your yard will likely have less space to spare
  • Within a few days, it can be installed
  • Your landscaping will be minimally affected by the temporary addition; it can be removed with the minimum of effort

Negatives:

  • A limited selection of sizes and shapes
  • Does not add value to a home
  • Compared to inground pools, they last a shorter time

Remember that installing a pool may not increase your home's value, but it can be a time-consuming and costly undertaking. A pool is worth investing in if you and your family plan to use it. Safety should always be considered, as well as proper fencing and non-slip flooring.
