An inconvenient truth - Why is anyone shocked? - January 6, 2021

I am surprised by the many intelligent individuals expressing shock at today's events.

The Republican Party, the Tea Party and Donald Trump have been threatening the American people with violence for five years.

During the 2016 presidential election and throughout the past four years, Donald Trump and/or his administration have blazenly ignored or broken numerous ethical precedents, laws, moral standards, policies, procedures and regulations.

The President himself has regularly called for violence against individuals or institutions who disagree with him.

On numerous occasions, Make America Great Again (MAGA) fanatics have acted with violence, injuring and even killing non-violent bystanders, journalists and/or protestors. On several occasions, the President, members of his family, his campaign and/or supporters publicly announced that they would covered legal costs for MAGA fanatics who beat protesters at Trump events and rallies.

Today, the United States of America and the world witnessed the culmination of Donald Trump's autocratic and deranged descent into cowardly tyranny.

Take a look at the protestors inside the US Capitol today. And ask yourself sincerely, "Does this shock me?"

The MAGA mob has exposed the sad spectacle of American ignorance and violence, posing as exceptionalism and supremacy.

We need to face the inconvenient truth.

Yes, Bradley. You and others question why it took so long for law enforcment to bring the situation under control. The warning letter of previous Secretaries of Defense should have alterted lawe enforcement in advance. At the very latest, the mob marching from the White House should not have gained access to the Capitol. This was an attempted coup.

More shocked at the ineffectual response to handle the demonstration before it became the seditious riot sullying our democratic institutions.
