Influence, Impact & Legacy: Inside the Mind of Music Legend Scooter Braun
Imagine this:
You drop out of college at 19 to promote parties.
You start working for a record label and become VP of Marketing at 20.
You decide to start your own label even though you barely have enough money to live.
And then you discover one of the biggest music stars of the decade.
Fast forward a few short years later and you are one of Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in the World, not to mention the manager of some of the hottest artists in the industry.
How does stuff like this happen?
To tell us how, I’ve brought on a friend to The School of Greatness for an incredible interview that isn’t what you’re expecting.
I met Scooter Braun at a Pencils of Promise Gala (through his brother Adam) a few years ago, but we became friends at SXSW later while playing basketball.
Scooter, as you will quickly learn, has an incredible mind for business, marketing, entrepreneurship and hustle. But he also has a huge heart (runs in the family).
We talk about his devotion to his family, what kept him on course while building his career, how he manages his incredible team, and why he is so passionate about always giving back.
Get excited for one of the best interviews you’ve heard to date on Episode 127 with the legendary Scooter Braun.
“We chase the dollar but we don’t understand what the dollar is for.”
Some questions I ask:
- What was your dream as a kid?
- What are some of the big lessons you learned early on in developing artists when you were failing?
- How has family shaped you and why is it so valuable to you?
- What shifted for you when you found out you were going to be a dad?
- Who are your mentors?
- What is your definition of being good man?
- When did you decide that every investment you make needs to have a charitable component?
- How do you build powerful teams (and how do you get the best performance out of them)?
In This Episode, You Will Learn:
- The story of how he got into promoting clubs in Atlanta
- The story of how he got to know Usher
- Sometimes artists don’t want to be as big as you want them to be
- The advice that Lil Jon gave him at a nightclub in London that helped him make the jump to working for himself
- Why sharing your contributions with your family makes it all worthwhile
- Why he tattooed “family” on his wrist after a close friend’s death
- The wisdom he’s received from cab drivers
- The fact that Justin Bieber is the number one giver to Make A Wish Foundation of any musician ever (and he’s only 20)
- Why we should focus on innovation over creation
- His advice to young people
- Plus much more . . .
“It’s more important to have positive energy around you than the smartest people.”
