Innovamol Newsletter
Did you miss some of our recent articles from the InnovaBlog in the last month? Don’t worry!
In Innovamol we publish every month a newsletter recapping our latest scientific publications, new insights, our company updates and, in general, news about industry and/or policy of our interest.
In the month of October, we focused on the evolving landscape of food innovation in the European Union, where the European Food Safety Authority updated the guidance on how to prepare and submit applications for novel foods, with changes effective from February 2025. These changes will significantly impact both the scientific and administrative aspects of the novel food application process. In particular, EFSA’s updated guidance highlights the need for more robust safety assessments and clarifies data requirements. Notably, the guidance emphasises comprehensive literature reviews, encouraging applicants to adopt systematic approaches to ensure thorough evaluations. In addition to novel foods, EFSA also released new guidance on traditional foods from third countries and micronutrient safety, providing stakeholders in the food innovation sector with clear pathways for market entry into the EU. In this context, our Director of Research, Dr. Alberto Del Rio, led a workshop at the Future of Protein Production Conference on October 23rd-24th in Amsterdam titled “EFSA-Compliant Literature Reviews: Challenges, Pitfalls, and Opportunities”, where he explored the complexities of conducting literature reviews in compliance with EFSA standards. The session also discussed the role of AI tools and other insights on how to streamline and enhance the accuracy of the reviews. It was an incredible opportunity for us to share our expertise on scientific data management applied to regulatory compliance, and discuss the future of food safety and innovation. Read more here
The last month, we also embarked on an exciting new project with EFSA, expanding our expertise in regulatory science. Innovamol has been selected to provide technical support to EFSA in editing documents related to the pesticides peer review process, which represent a fundamental step for public health, since ensure the safety of agrochemicals, particularly pesticides. EFSA’s Pesticides Peer Review (PREV) unit plays a central role in safeguarding the European food chain through rigorous assessments of plant protection products (PPP). Innovamol is proud to assist EFSA in maintaining the highest standards of transparency, data quality, and scientific rigor throughout the peer review process. Read more here
Again, Innovamol place itself at the intersection of scientific data, innovation, regulation, and public safety. In fact, we see this intersection as a chance to drive change—not just by supporting EFSA in its critical role but by fostering a culture of responsibility and foresight within the industries we work with. Our involvement in both food innovation and agrochemical safety highlights a broader shift toward more transparent, data-driven decision-making in the regulatory space.
We look forward to sharing more in our next newsletter, coming at the end of November!
