These news and insights are brought to you by AI Business.
1. Generative AI: Should development be paused?
Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk and Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak have both expressed their support for pausing the training of models to the level of GPT-4 until appropriate guardrails are developed. They argue that AI systems have the potential to cause significant harm if not developed responsibly and that there is a need for more regulation to ensure that AI is used in a way that benefits humanity.
The debate over the risks and benefits of AI is ongoing, with experts calling for greater research to inform future policy decisions. But are they merely getting in the way of technological advancement?

1yPausing AI development would be an irresponsible move. - Who would set the guidelines for it to be unpaused? - Would other countries stop development as well? - Why would legislature be written after nearly 100 years of being ignored? The Goldman Sachs point is sensationalist and limited. - Maybe 25% of job functions will be wiped out, but 25% of jobs won’t be eliminated. - If there are 25% of jobs eliminated, an equal or larger amount of jobs will be created. Cheaper, more efficient AI models are expected, just like every other technological invention. Super computers used to cost thousands and you get exponentially better performance for a fraction of the cost now.
