An inspirational story, upcoming workshop and gift ideas✨
Hi,
In the context of so much anxiety and overwhelm these days, I wanted to share something short, uplifting and inspirational.
I was at a 20-year celebration for an organization called School on Wheels, which provides tutoring and educational supplies and support to children who are homeless. This organization was started by a friend of mine who came across an article in a magazine one day and wanted to find a way to help. She began collecting backpacks in her garage, and over 20 years grew this into an amazing organization that has helped thousands of children and their families. Some of these students spoke that night — students who had been helped by that program who are now in college and graduate school to become nurses, teachers, doctors, lawyers, and other professionals.
On the table where I sat, there was a card of the Starfish Story. It read:
“A young boy walks along the beach, surrounded by thousands of stranded starfish. He starts to throw them back into the ocean, one by one. An old man sees the boy and exclaims that he will never make a difference, given the number of starfish. The boy pauses, turns to the man as he tosses another starfish, and replies, “I’m making a difference for this one.” Inspired by the boy’s bright light, the old man joins him.”
[I since found this link, which has reference to the origin of where this story came from.]
We can’t do everything, we may not be able to change a lot of things, but we can do something. And our actions matter and can have a ripple effect in ways we may not even realize.
You matter. Your actions matter. If we can each be a light in the darkness we can light the way for one another.
Wishing you a beautiful and meaningful month ahead!
Warmly,
Beth
