Intellias at Skift 2023: Unleashing the Power of Technology in Travel & Hospitality

The Skift Global Forum 2023 in New York City was an exceptional gathering of travel industry leaders, and Intellias VP of Travel & Hospitality Fritz Oberhummer was excited to join the leading industry event.

Connecting with CEOs and Visionaries

Our journey at Skift Global Forum 2023 began with excitement as we met with fellow travel professionals, attended enlightening sessions, and engaged in discussions with industry thought leaders. Every year, the SKIFT team created a magical atmosphere. Travel is back after many challenging years and cannot be stopped even by economic downturn effects, which are still lingering.

AI: Shaping the Future of Travel

One of the event's highlights was Gary Morrison's captivating presentation on Hostelworld Group's vision for the future of travel powered by AI. The message was crystal clear: AI has the potential to "supercharge" human connections during travel, creating memories that last a lifetime. Millennial travelers are increasingly using their ventures into the world as opportunities to meet new people, deciding their destinations based on the company they can find and explore local experiences with. AI is poised to play a pivotal role in enhancing these experiences through an enhanced match-making algorithm that Hostelworld has now applied.

Scaling Curated Experiences

Johannes Reck from GetYourGuide delivered an exceptional session, shedding light on how they plan to scale the business further from their standard offering to curated travel experiences while supporting small businesses. Three key principles emerged: outstanding operations support, deep insights, and the creation of defining content. AI, it seems, is set to play a significant supporting role in achieving these goals, especially in the content part. GetYourGuide's growth trajectory is certainly one to watch closely as they continue to bring unique products to the market and have emerged as one of the major contesters for the Tours & Activities market in the past few years.

The Future of Driverless Travel

The future of travel isn't just about people; it's about automation too. During the Skift Forum, we asked Rafat Ali , SKIFT’s founder and MD, about his on-stage interview with Uber CEO  Dara Khosrowshahi on their vision of driverless robotic taxis. The consensus was that, while this technology will become a small part of the business in the coming decade, third-party solutions like Waygo will serve as the driving force for transport in the near future. Yet, there is already interest in “robotic sidewalk deliveries” from Uber (via third parties), becoming a widespread service in the US.

At Intellias, we remain committed to exploring the intersections of technology and travel. Skift Global Forum 2023 provided invaluable insights into how the industry is evolving, specifically around core topics such as AI and ML, and we're excited to continue being at the forefront of these transformative changes.

We extend our gratitude to all the incredible individuals we met and the inspiring conversations we had at #SkiftForum2023. Big thanks to the whole Skift team for organizing an outstanding event!
