Internal Audit Conference 2024: the keynote speakers

A few weeks ago, we gave you a small teaser of what’s in store for this year’s Internal Audit Conference. Now, we’re pleased to introduce you to just a handful of the fantastic, and diverse, speakers joining us over the two days #InternalAudit24.


Benito Ybarra, Executive VP - Global Standards, Guidance & Certifications, IIA Global

During the first keynote address of the event you will hear from the Executive Vice President of Global Standards, Guidance & Certifications at the Institute of Internal Auditors – Benito Ybarra.

Benito has more than 25 years of extensive audit, compliance, and investigation experience and has contributed substantially to the IIA over the years.

Benito’s keynote takes place on 2 October at 9.15am.


Dr. Hannah Fry - Professor in the Mathematics of Cities, Centre for Advanced Spatial Analysis, UCL

The closing session of day one is titled 'The human and the machine - how the relationship between the two are reshaping today’s society.' Professor Fry will explain how machines are going to change the way we work and what we can do about it. 

Hannah Fry regularly writes for the New Yorker, and her book, Hello World - How to be human in the age of the machine, was shortlisted for several of the world’s most prestigious non-fiction awards, winning the 2020 Asimov Prize.

Hannah’s keynote will take place on 2 October at 4.15pm


Gareth Davies - Comptroller and Auditor General

The opening keynote session on day two is titled 'Risks and opportunities of managing government finances'. Hear from Comptroller and Auditor General at the National Audit Office.

Gareth’s experience spans financial and value for money audit, organisational leadership and Board governance. Gareth is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy and a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.

Dr. Kamel Hothi, OBE

For the final keynote session of the event, join us for an extraordinary journey of transformation. Discover how Dr Hothi forged a path of leadership fuelled by compassion, authenticity, and inclusivity, all while achieving remarkable business success. Dr Kamel Hothi OBE has been a trailblazer, breaking glass ceilings in the banking world for over four decades. From being the first Asian bank manager in UK to director, strategist and architect of numerous initiatives that have changed the banking industry. She was awarded an OBE by Queen Elizabeth II in 2017 for services to promote diversity across banking. 

Kamel’s keynote takes place on 3 October at 4.15pm
