Hossein: What inner beliefs about yourself have contributed to your success?
Anant: My core belief is in team success over individual achievements. I believe true success comes from working together, and if we focus only on individual goals, we miss the bigger picture. I’ve held this belief throughout my career and apply it daily with my teams, prioritizing collaboration over competition or personal credit. I encourage my teams to focus on collective success, knowing that individual success will follow. This mindset has become part of who I am. I strive to think collaboratively, consider others' perspectives, and work towards shared goals. My collaborative approach, combined with passion, a positive attitude, and a focus on solutions, has greatly supported my progress.
Hossein: How can young people develop these beliefs to achieve sustainable success?
Anant: Hard work is essential, but so is work-life balance, continuous learning, and growth. I believe in viewing challenges as opportunities and focusing on solutions. Instead of seeing problems, approach each challenge with a “How do I solve this?” mindset. Collaboration is also key others will support you if you’re collaborative, and it’s a skill worth developing early on. Working with passion and giving your best can make a real difference. If you don’t feel passionate about your work, it may be time to reconsider your path. These are qualities I think younger people should adopt.
Hossein: Do you see a connection between controlling one's thoughts in difficult situations and professional success? If you have been in such a situation, how do you manage to control your thoughts?
Anant: As you get older, you gain more control over your reactions. While it’s natural to want to respond immediately, especially when emotions are high, it’s better to pause and hold back. Responding impulsively often leads to regret, as I’ve learned from experience. In any frustrating situation, count to ten and allow yourself time to think more rationally. If a level-headed response comes, great; if not, wait until you’re calm before replying. Managing impulsive reactions is challenging but essential, especially in professional settings. Taking a deep breath, calming yourself, and thinking carefully are key to handling difficult situations thoughtfully.
Hossein: Do you believe that a positive and optimistic attitude (#Focus_on_beauties) leads to greater happiness and helps us better understand our customers' needs and develop more agile solutions?
Anant: A positive and optimistic attitude is essential for happiness and resilience in life. People who focus on the positive tend to be happier, while those with a negative outlook often experience dissatisfaction. Maintaining a positive approach helps us handle daily challenges, both personally and professionally, and encourages a solution-focused mindset. In customer interactions, while positivity leads to more constructive responses, true understanding comes from active listening. Listening deeply enables us to grasp the customer’s needs fully. Positivity can make us more receptive to feedback and encourages a collaborative, problem-solving approach rather than defensiveness or blame-shifting. So, while positivity aids in responding well, actively listening is fundamental to understanding.
Hossein: How can we improve our ability to listen well?
Anant: Good listening improves with experience and requires learning to hold back responses until the other person has finished speaking. Waiting to respond and jotting down thoughts can help avoid interruptions, which can be off-putting. Some people may find it hard to change the habit of talking without listening, even after feedback. Improving listening skills also takes patience. Meditation can be beneficial, as it promotes calmness and reduces the urge to react immediately, helping to build the patience needed for effective listening.
Hossein: Can you name three books or movies that have had a significant impact on you?
Anant: Two movies had a strong impact on me due to their inspirational stories. One was The Pursuit of Happyness, starring Will Smith. It tells the true story of a man and his son who faced homelessness while he tried to start a business. Despite immense challenges and financial struggles, he persevered through an unpaid internship at a major investment firm. Against all odds, he became the only intern to secure a job, ultimately achieving success. The resilience and determination shown in this story were truly inspiring.

Hossein: How did he manage to keep going in that situation?
Anant: In The Pursuit of Happyness, the main character never gives up, even when facing extreme hardships. His story shows that by pushing forward and not giving up, success is possible. It also reminds us that, even if our problems seem big, we’re often in better situations than we realize.
Annat: The Shawshank Redemption left a strong impact on me. It was an Oscar-nominated film. It’s about a man wrongly sentenced to life in prison, who, despite his frustration, shows patience, resilience, and hope. Over many years, he digs a tunnel to escape, outsmarting the corrupt warden in the process. Though life in prison is harsh, he builds friendships and shows kindness, like arranging beers for his fellow inmates. His journey emphasizes that hope can help us overcome even the toughest challenges, reminding us to keep hope alive no matter what.
Hossein: You are undoubtedly successful. But do you also see yourself as a happy person?
Anant: For me, happiness is an overall sense of well-being and contentment. While there are ups and downs, I go to bed feeling grateful and positive about my life’s direction, my work, and my family. I avoid comparing myself to others and focus on appreciating what I have, knowing things could be worse for many. I’m grateful to whatever higher power there may be and believe that gratitude and positivity contribute to my happiness. Although we can’t entirely “make our own luck,” keeping a positive attitude and not losing hope seem to invite good fortune.
Hossein: Whom at T-Systems would you nominate for my next interview?
Anant: Peter Lorenz is the Senior Vice President Digital Solutions at T-Systems International. He’s probably the next right person for you to talk to.
Hossein: Anant. Is there anything you’d like to add to our conversation?
Anant: I enjoyed the conversation. These are topics I often discuss with my team, especially younger employees seeking career advice. I always tell them to view their career as a marathon, not a sprint, and to focus on pursuing what they truly want to do.
