Interview is not a challenge but opportunity

Interview is not a challenge but opportunity

Fluctuated market dynamics still force many global companies to sustain the hiring pause, cost cutting actions, changes in business strategies, as well as withdrawal in target markets. And many people have to return to the job seeking stage after years.

This is unfortunate for the employees who face the lay off as a result. Moreover many people are caught by this without preparing themselves for the interviews in which they need to present their personal brand and experience. Nobody is alone in these feelings. Only we need to keep in mind that:

  • The interviews are not one sided and one targeted events.
  • It is an opportunity for people to write their new success stories and dust off the rust while riding again to the job seeking market.

If we know how to utilise them, we can see interviews as just a mature conversation between professionals for information exchange. They are the chances for being informed about trends in markets, knowing the companies’ cultures, understanding the expected competencies and developing our own, exploring our blind zones that we think we were well-qualified in, improving storytelling skills and networking.

If you don't feel comfortable talking about your projects, takeaways, learning path and career dreams, don’t suppress yourself.

  • List the common interview questions that you can find on the internet and record your answers to watch it later. While watching, take your notes about your room in improvement.
  • Rehearse the interview as if it is a public speech and consider that you’re a complete product with your skills, brand and experience. Prepare yourself to show and sell it with a great speech.

There are many videos or articles on the websites to prepare yourself for a potential interview. I share here 2 of them that may be helpful:

Last but not least; be confident! Practice makes perfect and also having as many interviews as possible, and getting as much feedback as you can after the interviews will help you build your development plan and will make you better at leading the conversation.
